They agree. Under this staff, OL/DL will be a priority every single year.

From what I’m told, they’re fairly obsessed with the SEC advantage being on OL/DL in terms of size and believe that’s the path to competing on the national level.
Totally agree!

This issue I have with going hard and heavy after DT's this year and that the focus is to be like SEC programs along the fronts, is that they only got 1 measely DT in the last class. I consider that to be pathetic if they knew that was the case. All they had to do is look at the roster and players in practice/games and they had to know they needed a lot more than just Horton in the last class.

IMO, they absolutely positively screwed up DT recruiting last year and are feeling the effects of it now! We will get ran on again this year or get owned on the DL as usual because of not addressing size previously.

They crushed OL and DE, supplemented a few DTs via portal. Baby steps man.

Well they prioritized the OL and still ended up with a fairly balanced class overall. Thats how they ended up with 2 5 star OL. Even while having a 5-7 record. I hate to sound like im always defending these man, but context matters when we are making criticism. They are prioritising the DL now and hopefully with a better on field product it becomes easier

If you get both the Ole Miss and La Tech DT transfers that shores up the interior this season. So to say they aren’t addressing the DL for this season isn’t true.

I am not typically a mope, but they totally screwed it up man. Well I was a mopey when they hired Gattis because I knew it would be a horrendous fit.

***** baby steps......you are getting paid unreal $ as a staff. I expected better DT recruiting period point blank. So they were so focussed on OL and DE that they couldn't pull more than 1 DT in the last class.

They supplemented through the portal with yet more undersized 3 technique DT's when they needed to address size. If they knew they needed to get bigger along the LOS then they should have already addressed it. Horton wasn't nearly enough for DT's with real actual size who won't get pushed around along the offensive front. 1 measely guy with size through the portal like Jackson with size was not nearly enough!

The big boys up front need development. It should have been very obvious to them they needed to front load 2 more DT's in the last class with real size or every year they have to go portal shopping just like Manny did.

No offense to you, but overall class and OL recruiting doesn't have a got **** thing to do with DT recruiting! Telling me things I already know don't matter either. You want to be big time along the fronts, then address both of them properly. After all, you are only getting paid $8M a year.

Why does he keep bringing in “ non pro “ types on DL ( Gore, Lichtenstein, Deen (even tho he’s good) if that’s what he wants?

Deen is fine, even as a 6’1 290ish rotational piece. He has played major minutes and more than held his own as a starter in the B1G. Everyone we bring on isnt going to be 6’4 300+, we aren’t Bama/UGA. Lichenstein was an easy lay up when Cristobal got here as an opportunity to add some vereran depth but if he is playing major minutes for us (which he won’t be sans injury *knock on wood*) then yeah we are pretty screwed.

Gore on the other hand…
I’m sure he is a great kid, and he has accomplished more in football than I ever come close to accomplishing in this game, but he had no business getting a scholarship to the University of Miami and I have maintained that from jump.

A portal DT class of Deen, Malone, and Rose though is grade A though IMO, especially with Moten emerging and having a great off season.

Told them give him time and the monsters will arrive. Wins will come way later but it will be worth it. It will be sustainable wins yearly. EZ fkin work. Glad MC thinks like me. Cause this is exactly what I ask for a HC to do.

You also base college talent on what the NFL draft tells us, right? What is Mario’s output there?

Well they are addressing both of them. In consecutive class. Just dont happen like magic. And yes it OL reccruiting and the overall class do have shyyt to do with recruiting. You have so many hours in a day and so mucb resources to put into each player's recruiting. And Maybe they did try to do both, which is why they got rid of alot of coaches as apparently they were not tenacious enough. Rod Wright, Steele and Strong out, Taylor, Guidry etc in. U just gonna have to be mad for some more months brother

How many spots does UM currently have open? By my count only 3 or so? Are more expected to transfer out? I thought the window for the portal closed?

I thought it was 4. But either way, some current players graduate this month and over the summer, plus blue shirts if needed. The roster is flexible.

I was counting Ragone and the Oklahoma CB transfer in my totals to get to 82. Not sure if that's totally accurate or not though

Tywone Malone visiting hopefully shuts all these "Mario-Cant-Recruit" idiots up.

Bro. First, he hasn't committed. Second, he's been a bust for Ole Miss, so this is a reclamation project. He's a former top 100 player they got very little out of - 108 snaps over two seasons (go ahead everyone, you have my blessings to boo and hiss at me for pointing out facts).
However we're so thin at DT that Cristobal has to roll the dice based on his athleticism. He's a high risk high reward player. If he is motivated enough , he can be a monster. If not, he'll be back where he was with Ole Miss. I don't think there's an in between. Given his ceiling, I'm good with the offer, but let's not act as if Cristobal has suddenly learned how to get elite QBs and WRs to transfer to UM.
