Two linebackers will be visiting- Konnor Near (Ferris State) and Larry Nixon (North Texas). Both are All-Conference players at their level and project as inside backers. Neer has three years of eligibility, while Larry Nixon has one. Miami wants competition there. Neer is coming for one day on a straight business trip. It is likely going to come down to Miami and Oklahoma, where he just visited.

Pretty sure that Near isn’t visiting anymore he committed to Oklahoma after this article was written.

Bro. First, he hasn't committed. Second, he's been a bust for Ole Miss, so this is a reclamation project. He's a former top 100 player they got very little out of - 108 snaps over two seasons (go ahead everyone, you have my blessings to boo and hiss at me for pointing out facts).
However we're so thin at DT that Cristobal has to roll the dice based on his athleticism. He's a high risk high reward player. If he is motivated enough , he can be a monster. If not, he'll be back where he was with Ole Miss. I don't think there's an in between. Given his ceiling, I'm good with the offer, but let's not act as if Cristobal has suddenly learned how to get elite QBs and WRs to transfer to UM.
Hush! Y’all complain about everything while knowing nothing lol. i guess everyone in the portal is a so-called “bust” for their team. That’s why they’re in the portal, right?

This is that irrational homerism I'm talking about. And it's irritating when people try to win arguments by creating strawmen. Find me a post where ANYONE has said that every player in the portal is a bust. Some are, some aren't.

Malone is a former top 100 player and a top rated DT who has barely played over the span of 2 seasons. He has been a disappointment for Ole Miss. It's obvious that Malone was in the dog house because of the lack of production and spending so much time with baseball (which meant missing spring practice). Doesn't mean he isn't a take for UM because he still has a lot of potential, but he is a top recruit who hasn't done much on the field (that is a bust in my football dictionary).

You got it 👍🏾

Malone is a take all day, but don't assume we would be getting the second coming of Warren Sapp. He's guy who looks the part and to date hasn't done squat, yet you take hoping to somehow tap into the potential. And face it, we're fairly desperate.

What's concerning is if the guy is serious about football & sees it as his meal ticket, then why on earth is he messing around with baseball this spring. Baseball is a lark. He doesn't have a chance in **** of doing anything in baseball. So is he not mature or dedicated?

Dude, you are carrying on and on. I am a retired military guy. I am results oriented. You can continue to carry on with all of this BS if you like. If they had prioritized DT the way they did OL we wouldn’t be having this discussion. Instead, portal shopping again just like Manny and they will be doing it again next year. The direct results of not bringing in enough big time HS talent is portal shopping and settling for scraps!

Thank you for providing that relevant background.
As a retired **** star, I can tell you it is very difficult to fill every hole at once. The truly elite can do it, but even then the risk of a bust is high.... very high.

😂😂 wtf are you talking about? He’s immature because he wants to play a sport he loves playing? He understands football is his money sport, but you can’t fake having a passion for something. Knocking a kid for wanting to play two sports is dumb as ****

And when were they supposed to prioritize DT?!?! Please tell us. A coach who’s been here for just a year. You mean when they were recruiting Bain? Acheampong? Horton? Or heavily after David Hicks? John Walker? Will Norman? Or LIKE THEYVE BEEN DOING THIS WHOLE OFF SEASON!!! Y’all just love to write crap and make no sense!

So, should he end up at Miami do you think Mario signs off on is playing baseball next spring? Ok, perhaps focus or direction would be more appropriate than maturity.

I mean I don’t know the baseball schedule and how it looks but I’m sure they can work around spring football and baseball. If he wants to play both I’m sure he understands how much work and how busy he’ll be. Didn’t he do this at Ole Miss?

If he were an upper classman I'd agree. But my understanding is that he's a redshirt freshman ... playing a grown man's position (which usually takes a couple of years to get ready).

It may be risky (if he hasn't gone all in on football yet), but I also think it's a little premature to call him a bust.

Suspect Mario and Coach Joe would sit the big fella down & candidly advise him his time would be better spent on the practice field/weight room. They won't be checking to see how baseball and spring football schedules align. Days of flights of fancy & jacking around are over if he comes to Miami -- or he'll be back in the portal again.
His baseball prowess is highly limited. Played in 6 games & only 2 starts . . . .100 average (1-for-10), 1 HR, 1 RBI, 6 Ks.
So, don't think Mario will be eager to see DT on baseball field.

So....i very randomly learned something new today that is somehow relevant to this....kind of.

Many ducks form bonds between males and females that last for a whole mating season. But rival males often violently force themselves onto females. To gain the edge in these conflicts, drakes have evolved large corkscrew phalluses, lined with ridges and backward-pointing spines, which allow them to deposit their sperm further into a female than their rivals. These extreme penises are even more unusual when you consider that 97% of bird species lack any penises whatsoever (wtf)

But female ducks have developed countermeasures. Their vaginas are equally long and twisting, lined with dead-end pockets and spirals that curve in the opposite direction. They are organic chastity belts, evolved to limit the effectiveness of the males’ lengthy genitals.
