Miami LB coach and co-defensive coordinator Derek Nicholson will be taking the LB coach job at Missouri, as reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Nicholson spent two years with the Miami Hurricanes. The defense struggled in his second season, finishing 70th in scoring defense and lagging far behind the nation's top-ranked offense. Nicholson's departure is part of a larger defensive overhaul, as the Canes fired DC Lance Guidry and CB coach Chevis Jackson took the DB coach position at Wake Forest.

Miami recently hired Corey Hetherman from Minnesota as its new defensive coordinator. It bears watching as to whether he will have involvement in the new hires.

Linebackers were terrible this season.

We got called out on National TV against Syracuse because the backers we clearly not lined up to play the power side on a short yardage play. Problem was that happened all the time. Repeatedly backers were not lined up correctly on the most basic of offensive formations. We all got caught up with the secondary alignment, but the linebacker alignment was almost as bad. That was on the position coach.

Now we know why Damon Wilson picked Missouri over us!

Sarcasm!

With the way the defense played there probably wasn't one human in the building that wasn't confused about the scheme. Including Guidry

Yep I’ve said Danny Kalter needs replaced. His only experience is Miami.

Even our fake punt that worked in the bowl game was horrible.

Lol the long snapper was lined up sideways. Not sure how Iowa state didn’t stop it .

Not mad at it. Hetherman can coach linebackers and if we get a guy like Monroe he can take the secondary which leaves room for a full time special teams coach.
I would be surprised if we waste one of the 10 on field coach spots that go out and recruit on a ST coach. We have a full time ST analyst who because of the new rules can actually coach. Now given the performance of the ST I would be fine with replacing him with a new analyst but the issues on ST was not because he was one of the 10 on field coaches.

It appears that Mario has not had to fire many grossly underforming Coaches and Coordinators. They have been " hired away" by other programs ( with sone obvious exceptions) Nonethless, weak staff is leaving without a great deal of acrimony or drama.

Ok fine, but our special teams coverage is awful and needs to improve. How they execute it is less important than the result itself.
It was 99% on Markeith Williams. He was atrocious on KO coverage and directly resulted in the 2 TDs.
