Can we hire a full time special teams coach, that can also assist maybe DB's or DL?

Miami ranked 78th in Punt Return yards allowed defense
Miami ranked 121st in Kickoff return yards defense
Wondering if we go back to Safeties and CBs being split? Didn't Minnesota have that set up, albiet Hetherman didn't make those hires.

Good riddance. I know everyone said he was a good coach this season has me guessing if he was. Lbs regressed idk if it’s his fault but I don’t think he was as good as he was talked up to being. We shall see but I think new DC/LB coach will have the LBs playing smart and fast

If we can close on Monroe for db's get a guy from nfl level to coach specials. Time to emphasize teaching around here.
They’re not hiring a STs guy into one of the “on field” spots. Analysts can do the exact same amount of coaching now. There’s no reason for it.

They just take up a recruiting position if you do it that way.

We need to develop our young pups-

Keep hearing about potential this potential that-

Coach them-

When was the last time we saw anything similar to our great LB play of the past-

Miami should never be in this position.

1. As I said earlier, this was expected. The Butcher coaches LBs, this guy really doesn't have a home now.

2. I've said since the minute after the Syracuse game, the majority of the defensive staff would be gone. Whether we like it or not, whether we think it's right or wrong, whether we think each coach as an individual is good or bad, when you are THAT bad on one side, this is just how it works. Everyone goes. Or, at the very least, almost everyone. And that's exactly what has happened. That side of the ball literally cost us a championship. At minimum, an ACC Championship. At most, a legitimate shot at a natty. So, this is literally just how it works. If you're kinda bad, most coaches can stay and you make a change or two. When you produce a biblical river of **** and sewage for an entire season, everyone goes.

DNich seemed like a good coach, and kids liked him. I'm glad he's getting another P4 job. I hope he does well. But this was 100.0% expected and necessary. The defense was a rotting, pulsating tumor, and anything associated with it is now expendable.

JT is the only guy left. I hope he stays, and we hire 3 good coaches around Crazy Eyes McGee. Get it done, Mario. Start with the DB coach in Minnesota. Thanks.

A good man, and a better coach than what last year showed. I'm a little so-so on his evals and ability to recruit the types of players we need to land at the linebacker position. Our LBs played like absolute **** last year, and we saw a serious regression from an All-Conference level LB in Kiko.

And for those reasons, he had to go.

He'll probably do well at Mizzou. They get some good linebackers out there in the Ozarks and Texarkana.
Mizzou always pulls 3 star over achievers from Texas

That's a waste. I'm not convinced that our special teams issues are a symptom of the fact that Kalter isn't an on-field position coach.

It's more an indictment on sh*tty coaching then it is the actual fact that he's not an on-field coach.

If you want to hire a different full time special teams coach, go do it. But he doesn't have to be an on-field coach.
We aren't covering kicks & punts well. We need someone who can change that.

i thought he did a good job with what he had, and recruited well
So he recruited well, which would mean we have talent at the position. He did a good job with what he had, so that talent must have been developed well. But the linebacker play has been mediocre. What am I missing here?

Ok fine, but our special teams coverage is awful and needs to improve. How they execute it is less important than the result itself.

Like I said. You can hire a new full time special teams coach that has legitimate experience coaching special teams without needing to sacrifice an entire on-field position coach for it.

You're not wrong. But they just don't need to be on-field.
