Miami is expected to hire Minnesota Corey Hetherman as DC

The Miami Hurricanes have their defensive coordinator. Minnesota defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman will be taking the same position with the Canes.

In games against FBS opponents, Minnesota finished 10th nationally in scoring defense (18.3 PPG), 14th in yards per play (4.7) and 19th in yards per pass attempt against (6.3).

Like Mario Cristobal, the 44-year-old Hetherman comes from the Greg Schiano coaching tree, having coached linebackers at Rutgers from 2022-23.

Hetherman had tremendous success at the FCS level. In 2021, he was named AFCA FCS Assistant Coach of the Year after coordinating James Madison's No. 2-ranked defense in the nation. He also served as Maine's defensive coordinator from 2016-18, leading the FCS in rushing defense, interceptions and fumble recoveries in his final season.

Hetherman is a Massachusetts native who played quarterback at Fichburg State from 2003-06.

One of the db coach names I’ve heard would be a very good addition. It would make plenty of sense .

We have seen elite resumes fail and crappy resumes have success. The only thing you can do is take a wait and see approach.

He improved for sure. Still has some game management room to grow, but this coming season's team is poised to be better than this team. Just need him staying out of the way and calling the properly timed TO or going for it on 4th and 1.

Mixed messaging on his recruiting. Some say good. Others say no. Mario was on record this year saying if you can’t recruit then there is no place for you on staff. So going to assume Mario sticks to that philosophy until proven otherwise

How much recruiting are most coordinators - especially defensive ones - doing? Were Steele and Guidry out there pounding the pavement for players?
