I’ll say I don’t mind the taking local high character and production guys. Especially when we’re getting elite players like across the board. These can be the type of guys that are around 2-3 years and aren’t causing issues. And it’s not like he doesn’t have ability. If I told you he redshirted and sat a couple years then started at LB his redshirt Junior and Senior season it would NOT be surprising.

Like Lb is also a position where athleticism imo is a bit overblown. You need minimums of course, and that was Flaggs issue - he just didn’t have speed to make the plays his mind was capable of. But like Leadership and intelligence are important qualities in a Lb. Height isn’t really the biggest deal either, but again he’s not ideal..

My real only issue is we do seem to have pretty limited spots In this hs class. But like in general if we get Melendez, Nix, and him, I think that is a really good LB class still. And our like 3 year haul at LB is about as great as you can realistically expect…. Especially since I don’t think we should be spending heavily on NIL for Lb.

Here's a question, would anyone be OK if Miami signs a linebacker that won the state wrestling championship in the 189 pound weight class in his senior year of high school?

I just want to know if a guy like that would be a "reach" or someone that we should not recruit because of his body type?

Because I'm talking about Ray Lewis...

Personally I wouldn't compare anyone to that guy... just saying.

However, not every recruit can be a 5-star, not every recruit can run a 4.3. These are the takes that every team has. Hard working, unselfish player with motor that plays fundamentally sound football.

And personally, I kept thinking about Corey Flagg when I saw the tape... and we all know who won us the game against Clemson.

If he’s a tad better Flagg as the 3rd LB in this class this is a take all day. The problem with Flagg was, he was LB1 in 2020. lol I don’t think I’ve ever seen a kid get more hate than Flagg when all he did was work his *** off every day.

Didnt like it either. And he was probably the 2nd best LB we had since Guidry came in. So coaching played into the hate he got before that. These guys are not asked to free lance anymore. They are being asked to do specific things. If Ezekiel balls out, the people crying wont apologize. They will move to the next thing. Just like i said they would apologize when they spent last summer crying about WR recruiting. Not one of them came back and said, they were wrong. Its in their DNA.

Congrats to the kid. That's all you really need to say.

Down the road, in today's portal crazy world, what's the odds he ever plays here or is on the roster in year three or four? Thirty or forty percent at best? Seems that's around the number for anyone at this point.

Let him enjoy his moment.
