Shouldn’t be relying on freshman to come in to start. Hit the portal hard like you should’ve done this past offseason. We could sign the best DB class in the nation, and I still think we’d need portal guys. Same way we did with DL this past offseason. Signed a great high school class but targeted good talent in the portal like Harmon, Barrow, Barron, Alston, and Scourton.

With Jalen I'd agree to an extent. I'd say it’s far more evident when you combine that with Rodriguez. With Reuben we had a good amount of others all getting knicked up at the same time before we really saw a big difference. Now Demari on the other hand, completely changed the trajectory of the secondary. What's sucked is that none of the youngins (other than oj) has been able to contribute in secondary at all. We really were hoping zaquan could mesh by this point so we could put Meesh in nickel. Hope we can keep the youth together on the team
Obviously due to team personnel we haven’t had a chance to see Meesh in the slot, but whenever I see him in coverage as a safety he gives up a big play. Genuine question why you think he will be the savior at slot when he hasn’t really shown it much this year given his coverage opportunities?

Meesh definitely hasn't been amazing or honestly even above average at this point. Thing with secondaries is they all attempt to compensate for the others mistakes. Several things have definitely been on him. But most of his issues have come from attempting to cover for Jadais Richard's. That dude is really bad unless the play is in front of him and slow developing. We've started to see Harris play come back down to earth as well. It's the same issues from one year to the next. That's why I can't wait for the youth to get some cohesion together.

Seems players are just eyeing the ball instead of executing their assignment.

I mentioned it before but last year Guidry stated in interview he does not like to rotate his safeties and thru last year and this season unless its a injury issue or game is blow out that has held true. Hard for young guys to develop cuz he says his starters will play majority of snaps
Does he prefer losing? He's done a bad job this year

Hill also. Richard too. Outside of that I’m with you. We need Patterson to develop because our safeties play slow sometimes.

If we’re talking CB only, then we need to see how Brown plays before we can be sure he’s a sure-fire starter. I would absolutely be recruiting over Hill and if he wins out in a real battle then great. Richard is not good enough to be more than a depth piece. Behind that we don’t know if anyone is any good. So we may need three portal guys at CB, minimum two.

Similar dynamics at safety. Harris may improve but we cannot rely on that. So unless you see breakout play from him in the second half of the season and postseason, or a massive step forward from Patterson et al., we should be hunting for both starters.

Hence the need for 5 portal DBs along with a top 2025 class, no less than 4. Fix the problem once and for all.

It would be great to flip pickett. Duh. But I agree we have to land a safety and a couple corners in the portal. I happen to think Slime is a legit kid who can start. But I agree with much of what you said

I strongly believe that some of our 2025 enrollees will play a lot, a couple could even repeat what OJ did and start. But we can’t be fully confident, no matter how much we like certain guys. And competition breeds excellence. Look at our DEs. We landed a ton of top quality guys and still pulled in Baron and Alston. That’s a good formula for instant success.

Next year secondary will be
OJ
Zaquan
Damari brown
Markeith
Jaden Harris

Now for the ?’s:
Robbie Washington
Ryan Clark
Richard
Stafford
Dylan day
Isaiah Thomas

Freshman:
Slime
Merritt
Stubbs

Need to land:
Pickett
I bet we get one out the portal too

Are the young guys like Patterson getting close to being starters? Not sure how much more I can take of a guy like Jadais whose terrible play seems to have a domino effect on the rest of the defense and not in a good way.

Agreed, unless they’re a plug and play freshman, should never be relying on true freshman to start and win you games

Nothing wrong with relying on freshman to start at few spots. Bama, Clemson, UGA, etc have done it and faired well. Now having majority freshman starting sure
