I think you’re missing the point, Miami can compete with NIL when signing day comes closer. But what UF did last year and what FSU, Auburn etc. seem to be giving bags to guys just to commit and we are not doing that.

So no the dirty tactics won’t stop but when we come in with our NIL package it’ll stack up with theres. It seems the expectation is that there will be a lot more flips across the country this year compared to previous years.

lol where are you getting this "they're giving guys money to commit" stuff from?

No way around it. If we lose out on him to FSU, regardless of the reason, it's a failure of the highest degree. Canes fan, in our backyard, mom's in our corner, position of need, can sell early PT, can offer good NIL (from what we are told), and desperately in need of some momentum. If we let him commit to FSU, even if people think he may flip down the road, it's a huge slap in the face. In this NIL world, there's no guarantees of getting someone to flip once they're committed.
And if FSU is offering under the table bags for a commit, should Miami do the same? We all know our local media would make those payments front page sports news if they got wind of it, and the NCAA would come hunting. Ruiz has already battled the NCAA over dinners.

We don’t want to go down that road.

JHC, we endured a 2 to 3 year investigation for that Ponzi scheme jock sniffer, and all he had was $80 Benihana’s receipts.

Yes, we should do the same. Mario is no stranger to how the game is played. He was under Saban and saw it up close and personal. You do what you have to do to get the talent on your team. Once you have the talent and show a product worthy of attention, you can reap the benefits of not having to get your hands "as dirty". I say as dirty because you're always going to have to play the game, it's the nature of the beast. Some schools just don't have to play with the same rules because they are well established as winners.

This...is more likely.

This isnt Coach Jones and thats staff first go round. If u see chaminades early schedule its a murderous row.

I think this is one of the most difficult schedule in the entire country. Dillard and Lakewood out of ST PETE is also on the schedule.

I dont even know if they are so much against it or the times he would want some officials would be difficult to line up with the scheduling.

Just my theory. This isnt a kid that hasnt already been to all the schools he is considering numerous times. I know he wants those officials though for the game day atmosphere etc and i dont blame em. I always told em b4 it was an unlimited amount that you have like 5 of them...take em all.
3 teams in Max Preps top 25 nationally

Nothing like being the clean 5-7 program. Miami the missionary or Saint Mario?
We’re celibate til marriage in December. Our big targets are just letting their hair down while they suck off our competition and their bags, then they’ll come back to us when the time is right. I know it in my heart they want to be here.

If we go 0-2 on Saturday this place will be insufferable. This is one battle I didn't expect to lose...he was a serious lean early on

You guys lose me when you say FSU just wants his commitment for the optics. Like they're just accepting that he'll to flip later.

Having him flip to their rival (Miami) while they are trying to close out/keep a class together would be pretty **** bad for the optics.

Also, how would a "commitment for the optics" actually help them with guys he's close to? If he's so close to those guys, wouldn't they be aware that his commitment was just for show?

How dare you inject reason and common sense into this recruitment!

FSU doesn't want his commitment just for the optics. They want him in their class. They've been recruiting him for a long time. They're paying top dollar for kids to commit, and this kid is being pressured to commit now by people around him even though he's said he's not exactly ready. So if you walk into a coach's office and say "How much you wanna give me to commit to you on Saturday?", and the coach says a number you're happy with, then you commit to that school. FSU is hoping that commitment sticks through ESD.

What our guys are saying is he doesn't put pen to paper until December. Committing anywhere but here isn't great for us, obviously. Obviously you'd rather him commit here now, stay committed, and sign. But if you're trying to find a silver lining here, people are saying that this is a rushed commitment and he's being paid handsomely to make it. Not exactly a commitment to the school he feels strongest about, on his own timeline. So it may not be as solid a commitment as most are, hence the optimism for everyone involved, not just Miami, to flip him from anywhere he commits to on Saturday.

Napier's class blew last year and Norvel hasn't done a fuccin thing since he got to FSU. These guys didn't become great recruiters overnight. Cribby and others have clearly said these teams are paying for verbal commitments and have questioned whether these verbals stick when ESD rolls around and actual NIL deals are ready to be signed. Mario, for whatever reason, isn't paying for verbals so we are where we are.

Think about it logically, if you're Napier, it makes sense to get the best class you can assemble BEFORE the season starts, because it will only get worse with the product on field. Pay kids whatever it takes to get the commitment now before the seasons and HODL as best you can. Better to take that approach than to sit back and get butt fucced during the season and end up with another class full of JAGs.

Norvell is a proven BUM of a recruiter. How is this dude all of a sudden recruiting in the same world as MC? Pay these kids now to get their verbal, and they think it becomes easier to hold onto them at ESD. Maybe that works, maybe it doesn't. This is the first year it seems to be such a prevalent tactic.

We'll obviously see what's up at end of the day.

I took off the orange and green glasses and looked at it objectively.

I’ll be the first one to say Mario exceeded all expectations with the ‘23 class (even with the departures of Cormani and Antoine) and the ‘23 portal. We got off to another slow start with ‘24, we were told it’s the same as ‘23. Then June kinda went by with just Riley, we were told July was huge. June OV’s = July dubs. Then July started rocky and we answered with a stud edge rusher. Then we whiffed a couple more times and responded with back-to-back massive wins with Trader and Artavius. Then we fizzled the rest of the month and were told August was the month to watch. And if we go 0-2 this weekend, the excuse will be that Miami isn’t playing the dirty game and that watch what happens after the season + December.

Is 7-5 or 8-4 enough to have this astronomical amount of flips that everyone is perceiving? Is 9-3 even good enough? One season of success on the field? I’m not completely certain. That’s why you need kids now.

Now we’ve gone 6 weeks with plenty of whiffs, fake almost commits with Ahfua and Mincey, one flip that while carries a blue-chip status and is absolutely a good prospect, he’s a project and isn’t instant-impact material…and staring down the barrel of a borderline 20th-ranked class before the season gets underway. It’s already outside the top 20 in national average per recruit.
Would Patterson and Stone bring you back?

Would Patterson and Stone bring you back?
Absolutely content with that. Because if we land both, now you have a class ranked 9th (I think, someone can fact check me there...might be tenths of a point behind Michigan for 8th), and we would have addressed two major holes in one day - interior DL recruiting, and safety. Plus with Patterson, now you have two big Chaminade commits than can recruit Jeremiah Smith. It would have also shown us that Mario and Miami can fight back (in various ways) and not be a punching bag this entire '24 recruiting process.

Are there still some holes to be addressed? Absolutely, but Top 10 heading into the season puts you in a position to close on a Top 5 class with 9+ wins.

That's the position we expected to be in, and should be in. We shouldn't be outside the Top 15, and even worse considering average recruit rating.
