Now this is also true. I’ll give him credit for that - he did hit on Dawson and got Cam. Two big steps in the right direction regarding his stereotypes on offense.

And I do think once in a blue moon, he’ll get a good DC…third time’s the charm?

But what worries me most is the holes on the roster that are reoccurring issues, the poor evaluations in those rooms, and the lack of development in those rooms. And that’s supposed to be his forte, what he’s known for and what he’s paid for.

Year 3, I’m underwhelmed to date.

Just got to weed out some of the bad portal takes like Sam brown(we had enough talent on the roster to provide his production efforts) wether that had been Horton or the freshman receivers(need to develop these guys as well as the young dlineman)

Unless they are quality transfers we shouldn’t look their way, enough of the dyoni hill, savion Riley etc types.

However they did hit big on most of the transfers last cycle

Truth. Honestly, looking objectively, what has Mario done in three years that makes everyone so optimistic that he is this great improvement over lispy Diaz? There is nothing to show that. Are we just relying on gut feelings as opposed to tangible results?

If some of you think this roster is top 10 in the nation then you are as lost as guidry is. This program needs to decide if we want to truly compete or not. It’s obvious that not wanting to "overpay" for players or staff gets you inconsistent results. We either put our money where our mouth is or shut up about being a title contender and enjoy our 10 win season every 4/5 years. G5 talent and G5 coaching gets you G5 results. You wasted cam ward this year due to poor evaluations in both recruiting and portal in addition to Mario's failure to get staff right. Either get with the times or rinse and repeat minus the generational qb

I really don’t know what answer at QB there is out there to make this team even close offensively to what it was this year. OL will be good RBs good but that’s not enough.

Reminder - Cam Ward had a 5th round grade last offseason.

He's obviously been very good for us, but it's not like Patrick Mahomes dropped into our lap. The ingredients are there for another QB to succeed in Miami.

We are going to have to fight off some BIG bags in the offseason if we have aspirations to win 10 again. 4-9 in November isn’t just a fluke at this point; it’s a trend. It’s an alarming trend.

For me, the bolded speaks volumes. He was brought in to fix a culture and instill an identity. If we’re still struggling to fix this in year 3…well, I’m not so sure it’s going to be fixed anytime soon.

The culture has been fixed - these players fought hard all season. We came back multiple times in games because we refused to give up.

The D scheme (and the talent level at S especially) let us down massively. That's the issue that needs fixing.

You can see the bad body language in the players when things go awry. We used to be known as a tough squad and now everyone we play can’t wait to mock us. We get punched in the mouth by decently coached teams and we don’t punch back consistently like we should. I love our team and will continue to wait patiently as a fan. We watched him lace 45 yard touchdowns on a rope to the back of the endzone to guys on the run. Multiple times. Some of the guys you mentioned couldn’t do things he did if they were on a practice field.

Lot of possibilities with the OLine. Unlikely to be a big regression from this year - where Bell was already playing a lot...

they need a center who can run the blocking scheme they way THEY want, not the way he can. They missed Matt Lee something awful this season.

I think the offensive side of the ball was tough all season. They dug in and made plays when needed. It always felt llike the defensive side was 11 individual players all doing their own thing. No leadership, no unity. I can't remember them ever coming together on the field after a bad play and just pumping each other up and reassuring one another. Isn't that what all those experienced transfers were supposed to do? Be leaders on the field and in the locker room? Be a part of the development of younger guys?????

Team was bad defensively. Our best secondary player was a true freshman. Our most gifted DB was hurt all season.

Mario has signed 2 top 7 classes and they are true freshman and true sophmores.

The DB recruting has been bad, thus Addae no longer here.

This team was never winning anything this season with the defense this bad. Not beating SMU, not winning a playoff game.

Sucks because we were so good on one side of ball.

I expect coaching changes and talent infusion.

Mario has to own it, and he will try his best to correct. 10-2 with 2 close losses. Keep building.

This one hurts deep in the soul. We had a chance for a special season and blew it. Every November feels the same for the past 20 years.

I'll dig deeper on rewatch, but my big picture view is this: Miami fell to its true level. We won games we could've lost, and we lost games we could've won. At the end, we were who we were all year.

We have a national championship offense. We have a bad defense. And we lack discipline overall. We came into this game ranked 120th in penalty yards per game. With the season on the line, we made two of the most immature penalties in team history. That was not a fluke.

Add it all up, and you get 10-2. Do I expect major defensive staff changes? Yes. But that isn't the only area we need to improve.

Mario ultimately owns all of it. He missed a rare opportunity. Now, the ownership cuts both ways- you can't blame him for the defensive misses and then ignore the strength of the offense. We were blessed to have Cam Ward, but he also landed Cam Ward and built his supporting cast. The question now becomes whether we can improve elsewhere enough to compensate for the loss of such a unique and special player.

This season will be remembered one of two ways: the beginning of something sustainable, or a fun, ultimately disappointing fluke like 2017. For true progress, this team needs to remake its defensive identity. You can fire coaches and recruit better DBs. But when you get bowled over by an Arena League running back with the season on the line, that's a cultural issue. When you look confused all year, it's deeper than talent. We had four NFL players in the 2022 secondary, and we looked just as lost as we did this year.

Was there progress? Of course. Should anyone expect us to build on that progress? That's a hard sell. The fanbase has every reason to be cynical. But none of us are going anywhere, so let's hope the build continues and we have enough material to tell lies this summer.

Do you believe Miami is going to try to bring in another big name at QB or do they trust Emory enough? Any chance this hurts them with any of the current commits only a few weeks away from signing day?

I understood Manny was in a bit over his head at the time but his efforts to correct what was wrong is something I always commended him for and a reason I thought our fans were a little harsh about his departure. Manny is a good dude and he seems to be turning into a good coach as well.

He’s got a top defense in the conference and what looks to be a rising talent at QB for next year rolling to end the year…

culture king is a fraud. I said J George was not a reliable receiver In the summer and got killed for it. he had a good year this year but his BS was going to catch up to him. it did at the worst time. Mario had a good year overall as a coach but he went back to his mean with the decision to go for a field goal. finally, the defense. its pathetic. you need to clean out the entire O and D staff imo (Dawson has zero feel for the game).
