Yeah another poster mentioned that.

It sets a dangerous precedent. If the NCAA can't act until after the fact and they're limited to giving them a slap on the wrist, other schools follow Wisconsin's example.
Amazing how weak the NCAA has gotten since the beginning of the NIL.
I understand the NIL is between the athlete and whoever he signs with but to let Wisconsin get away with this for this period of time is just weak. Something is just not adding up or maybe they (Wisconsin) are somehow involved in his NIL? Who the **** knows.

Just dipping my toe in here, so not wanting to be involved in an argument with the board. Quoting this only as an example I see often.

His own lawyer has publicly stated that the NCAA has no power to force Wisconsin to do anything. They could punish Wisconsin for not following portal guidelines, but they can't force Wisconsin to put him in. Have no authority to do so. The NCAA is a governing body on behalf of the institutions and has no power to force action from them.

The school is violating NCAA policy by not putting him in, but that's only punishment after an investigation.

Wisconsin saying he has a contract with them does not supersede the NCAA policy. Just like if he is placed in the portal does that change any potential contract with Wisconsin that he has.

The best course of action for him is either to file an injunction with the court to force Wisconsin to place in portal. Or to simply enroll at another school and play chicken with the NCAA over eligibility (which they would lose based on quite a bit of precedent).

If Lucas wants to come to Miami (and I assume he does), he should simply enroll and give everyone a middle finger.

(I'm not an attorney, nor do I play one on tv. Any advice here is purely for entertainment purposes and should be treated as such)

Great post. Let’s revisit this tomorrow.

No we wouldn’t. We got 10 cbs not including Lucas. 9 if you don’t count Richard who probably won’t play next year. Lucas or brown or maybe both will probably move to safety. And it’s a strong chance brown might leave after spring
I agree! Forgot Richard might not be ready. But, add Lucas and we're done with secondary unless you want people leaving in the next portal cycle. Then we're back to needing bodies!!

On a dark frozen highway, Arctic wind in my hair
Warm smell of provolone rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
A man promising NIL and playing time, I had to stop for the night
There he stood in the doorway, he had a recruiting pitch to sell
And I was thinkin' to myself, "This could be heaven or this could be ****"
Then he lit up a Acebeam and he showed me the way
There were voices in the athletic center, I thought I heard them say
"Welcome to the Wisconsin Cheese Badgers
Such a frozen place (such a frozen place)
You’ll soon freeze your face
Plenty of playing time with the Wisconsin Cheese Badgers
All the NIL you need (all the NIL you need)
You can find it here"
His schemes were twisted, his coaching made no sense, uh
He’s got a lot of talented kids that are riding the bench
How they waste on the sidelines, snow on their heads
Some scream to remember, some scream to forget
So I called up their Collective, "Will I get paid on time?"
He said, "Our budget is approximately $19.99"
And still, those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the tundra just to hear them say
“Welcome to the Wisconsin Cheese Badgers
Such a frozen place (such a frozen place)
You’ll soon freeze your face
Plenty of playing time with the Wisconsin Cheese Badgers
What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise)
Our NIL has gone dry”
Icicles on the ceiling, the whale blubber on ice
A teammate said, "We are all just prisoners here of Coach Fickell’s device"
And in the athletic center igloo, they gathered for the feast
They served us plates of cheese and lard and some unidentifiable Arctic beast
Last thing I remember, I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
"Relax, " said Coach Fickell, "We are programmed to receive
You can transfer any time you like, but you can never leave"
Man what you know about the eagles!?..great group and song!!

Back out of an executed agreement is not ridiculous to you, ok we disagree. That’s perfectly fine, I appreciate you able to talk about it without turning this into a huge **** measuring contests on cis
I agree with you in principle but I think it also depends on the agreement. It is a business agreement not a marriage where you find a better wife and dump your current spouse. As long as there is a stipulation of what the process is to terminate and he pays whatever fines or pays back money, etc. I really don't see the ethical dilemma in this case.

Exactly. Nothing unethical about backing out of an unfavorable business deal/contract and that is exactly what he did.

And here's the key thing. Whether the deal was favorable or unfavorable isn't the key issue, though it's the thing that Wisconsin fans are obsessed with.

The real issue is that he can transfer at any time for any reason. He may want to be a Marine Science major at UM. He may have Seasonal Affective Disorder. He may be dating a Cavinder triplet.

He is allowed to transfer to another school. NIL can't prevent that. Period. End of story.

Absolutely agree with that. Just pointing out that the "its not ethical" argument is nonsense, because it was a business contract that he backed out of. It doesn't lock him in to attending a school, and he has a right to leave said school for whatever reason
