yes. fair is fair. if coaches have free will, so do the students. just say youre good when college football was adults taking advantage of poor kids in **** situations

I would agree if kids weren’t getting paid but they are now.

And I said, you get one free transfer without having to sit out.

More than 1 transfer, you sit out. If you choose to transfer into a situation where the coach gets fired, that’s on you.

Also, my rule, when coaches leave, players get a free window to transfer out without penalty. That’s the way I would do it.

Again - need parameters and rules set. NFL has rules.

College football is a mercenary league now.

portal is the best thing that could happen to us and all of CFB unless you want the same 2 teams winning it every year. portal created parity and allowed everyone else to compete and not just bama uGA OSU. the talent cant be hoarded anyone

I don’t disagree to an extent. I’ve said what I’ve said on my last post. I like the portal. But not in this way and this isn’t because of Horton. I’ve felt the same way for a while.

When this portal stuff started, you could transfer one time without penalty. Once they took the penalty away, I was out on it and this current state.

Coaches sign contracts that both sides agree to. If a school wants to get rid of that coach, they pay the agreed upon buyout. If a coach wants to leave early, he can but there is also a fee associated with that.

Its not the same thing. There is no avenue for a proper long term contract protecting the schools or the players for that matter. Your comparing apples to oranges. Its unmitigated free agency, thats not what coaching is

coaches can get out of those contracts with a fee as you said and can start coaching the next day at the next school while the kids are stuck (btw, the coach doesn't pay the buyout the schools do - look up what we paid Mario and Manny in the first year of their deal - it included buyout money). the coach makes money in the end no matter what. we paid Mario 14 mill extra in year 1 to compensate for his buyout to Oregon.

uga isnt as good as they were. bama isnt even in it and lost to vandy and a bad OU team

OSU lost to a 6 loss Michigan.

tenn got beat by Arkansas and others

INDIANA is a 1 loss team.

SMU is in the playoffs.

clemson isnt dominant.

that doesn't happen without the portal

ASU went 10-2. ASU!

miami isnt even in the conversation without the portal and cam transferring here

This is retarded. The people in charge should care about the sport and not some bs equity concern. The “poor kids” argument is nonsense. Fans will leave in droves unless something is done fast.

Barring the SEC and B1G fully alienating the fanbases of every other university by monopolizing the playoff, this absolutely won’t happen. College football ratings were the highest they’ve been in like 15 years this season. The majority of college football fans aren’t following recruiting and the roster in the same way people on forums are. They turn the game on on Saturday to watch their school and maybe the big games of the week, and that’s it.

Riley was the 29th-ranked safety in the portal last season...so my guess is they weren't expecting him to be the next Ed Reed.

If you are just in your feelings because they aren't moving fast enough for you, just say that.

If we made the playoffs and Horton still wanted to transfer, would he have had to opt-in to the transfer portal and missed the playoffs as a result?

Vacating a likely WR1 spot next year (or at worst WR2 with heavy involvement) to go rot on the bench behind Ryan Williams & their other WRs is certified “ 🥜 “. Likely takes away any shot at getting drafted. Could be a super costly move.

The state of Alabama also has a 5% income tax rate at the high end so the $ difference is not that great on an after-tax basis.

Plus they have a runner as QB.

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
