WR Isaiah Horton signs papers to enter Portal

the school isnt paying the player though. they cant limit what a private organization gives to an athlete in an NIL deal.
The schools will be paying soon with revenue sharing. And there will likely be some half-hearted effort to tie NIL to “market value” that everyone will ignore or work around.

the school can only cap what they pay. again, they cant force Brahman BMW to pay only x to a guy who they deem is worth more than that in marketing to that company.

If he can get more money then why not. If he came back I wouldn’t have a problem with it but it’s not some huge loss. Cam was going to make anyone do well, he’s that type of qb. We are supposed to look way better at wr and we have not…..we haven’t recruited it top heavy (like 1st round types) imo. Pause
I'm not mad at him for getting the $ at all. In terms of production it's a bad move for him. Which if he plans on going to the league is more important then a couple hundred thousand. If he likes it I love it. I honestly don't want him back on the team.

Barring the SEC and B1G fully alienating the fanbases of every other university by monopolizing the playoff, this absolutely won’t happen. College football ratings were the highest they’ve been in like 15 years this season. The majority of college football fans aren’t following recruiting and the roster in the same way people on forums are. They turn the game on on Saturday to watch their school and maybe the big games of the week, and that’s it.
bingo. CFB has never been more popular. honestly, you should want the ability to magically turn your roster overnight. you can become a contender in a single year (which means you dont have to wait for 4-5 years to judge a coach (cough cough you know who im talking about). the instant results are a good thing.

if we dont have Mateer at QB, he doesnt have a good shot of making the league here

Everyone at some point chases money. If he ends up at Alabama, don’t see how it’s a bad move. Bama has sent a ton of WRs to the league. HC did the same at Washington.

They settlement sets up a process of review/arbitration of any NIL deals made by persons or entities with a close affiliation to the school. So donors and collectives basically.

It's a bad move because you are leaving a situation where you are projected to get the bulk of the targets for a situation where you are going to battle for WR3. Horton is the type of receiver that is going to need a lot of targets to put up big numbers. He is more of a back shoulder, quick slant possession receiver than a consistent deep ball/YAC guy. Those guys don't look stellar without alot of targets.

I'm not mad at the man. It's just not a better on field situation from what he is leaving. Emory is a dink and dunk guy, so that would be a ideal for a guy like Horton. Jalen Milroe is a deep ball or bust type guy and that's not ideal for a guy like Horton. Don't get me wrong, he does have the ability to stretch the field some but I'm not of the opinion he can kill you consistently with it.

Not true(in my opinion). Emory's style is conducive for the success of guys like Horton. Like I stated in another response. He is a back shoulder/quick slant possession wr. That type of receiver thrives with dink and dunk qbs.

Sorry, but it’s not a bad move. His draft status won’t change if he’s lining up at Bama, Ole Miss or Miami.

You are entitled to your opinion. You have failed to display how Alabama's play style helps his draft stock. You are logo loving and not talking actual football. It was the same thing with Colbie Young last year going to Georgia. Everyone was crying because of the logo, but the system wasn't conducive to his success and it hurt his draft stock(before the off the field stuff happened). IF colbie young stayed he would have had 600 or 700 yards but he took the short sighted bag and he won't get Drafted if he leaves.

Seriously don't get the outrage about Horton in the portal. He was basically a tall slant guy all year that was always bullied at the line. He ate this year because folks were worried about X, Arroyo, and George. Current and incoming WR's can easily replace him in an instant. We need experienced outside speed to stretch the field. Horton ain't it. People on here are melting once again. Relax folks.

I don't think you're wrong in your assessment of Horton.

The problem is that without him we either have zero WR coming back who have produced, or we have Sam Brown who was expected to be a #1-2 WR and ended up as our #4 WR, while we have to find a starting QB in the portal. Good QBs on the rooster attract good WR in the portal, and vice versa. We have neither. Not ideal!

If it works out it'll be a unique solution by Coach to the "Chicken or the Egg?" question though. Philosopher King.

I think that’s been the issue with most fans. No one is expecting rings with Mario at this point but we should expect he can have a better record than the guy they fired for this

No one thought we would win the ACC year one but also you shouldn’t be fine with getting humiliated by MTSU. No one expected a ring this year but you should have been able to do better than SMU

I agree with you, to a point. Horton produced this year, but, he was a one-trick pony. I get the experience factor you speak of and I agree it is important, but that can easily be overcome in the portal. I would venture to guess that there is no shortage of WR's in the portal that give you more threats and perhaps even the same short slant **** for way less money if this happens to be a cash grab by Horton. This is why I seriously don't get the outrage on here. I guess its par for the course with this fanbase always *****ing about something.

I absolutely agree with you that a QB portal grab would get the juices flowing. Whether that be a young stud with years left that can come in and compete (ex. Mendoza, Nolan, etc) or a splashy 1-year rental in Mateer. I'm stoked about Luke Nickel and happen to think he is the future, kid has moxie galore. Nickel reminds me alot of a young Dorsey. Regardless of who is behind center next year, you can't ignore the fact that he will be behind a very good O Line with a strong RB room. With Dawson's scheme juices flowing from this year, I'm not worried one bit about the QB position (just me). I would rather this staff fix the MAJOR problems on the backend of the defense which is way more in need of an overhaul than the offense.

My take is that if we can have a solid offense (Top 25) and a solid defense (Top 25), we can easily win 10 or more games next year. We don't have to have the #1 offense or vice versa. We need to be more well-rounded across the roster, especially defense. Just get me stud DB's and a legitimate DT and we should be fine.

Just my take.

You’re right, Bama hasn’t had any WRs drafted. Lol. Nothing to do with logos, either. NFL personnel folks don’t care if you have a U on your helmet or play for Mankato State.
The only thing impacting Colby Young’s draft status will be how NFL teams view his off the field issue. He is who he is as a player.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned and I think most people forgot is that if you go all the way back to the summer Horton and his people were not happy with the staff because they brought in Sam Brown to basically replace him. I'm sure thats not the only factor for him entering his name in the portal but I'm sure it plays a role
