Would you start Nickel and aim for 7-8 wins?

play him, take the lumps and hopefully solve the qb issue for a few years

Only if we completely whiff in the Portal and there's nothing but table scraps left.

If we can find a competent experienced QB, I'd much rather play him that have a true freshman get killed against Notre Dame and Florida.

we wont win 7 with nickel or emory next year. nickel seems to have a brighter future but i dont want to kill his confidence playing him against marcus freeman game 1.

hopefully we end up with a bridge portal QB
Clemson started Football Jesus as a true Frosh (2018)...and look at what he/they did...

Played 50-50 (with Bryant) first four games, started uncontested rest of season and Natty. Lawrence threw for 3,280 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, was awarded the National Freshman of the Year, and ACC Rookie of the Year honors on the season.

Need to find a portal QB. Period. Emory can walk and the two young QBs marinate. If the defense is fixed with a DC and portal additions, we can hope to be respectable and more well rounded unlike this year

I think we'd go 8-4 regular season with Nickel with a chance to win 9 depending on who we play in a Bowl game.

IF we can't entice a big time starter to come here before Spring camp, then I'd be good with rolling with the Jefferson coin.

We wouldn't win 7 games with Emory at QB, even with a fixed Defense & a stacked roster, we'd AT BEST be a 4 win team with Emory.

Which is why I was so vehement in the idea even being pitched at him being the guy for next year.

But from now until the start of Spring Camp, Mario needs to scour the Earth for any QB with prerequisite arm talent that he can find.
If Nickel comes in and is within 10% of the others in room, but is estimated to have more upside long-term, start him and let him shine.

I’m in agreement here.

OP - the challenge here is you have a HC who's spiraled downward his three years at Miami in the months of November and December with a 4 -10 overall record. Assuming the HC continues this performance, and at this time there's no reason to believe otherwise, you would be asking a true Frosh to come in and play lights out having to win 6, while losing 2 as the final four games you'd be staring at 1-3 (HC past performance) to aim for the 7 wins as you ask.

I don't see it with the current HC to have a Frosh QB prepared and ready to go against ND and couple weeks later UF. Better option is acquiring a vet QB that knows what Dawson is running, can make all the throws and has mobility to escape a collapsed pocket.

a lot of ****ting on carson beck and Mendoza the last few weeks - either of those with a new DC and we win 10 at least next year

hopefully, ewers makes himself available, or someone out of left field. if not, I feel like Dawson will go with Emory against ND over Nickel due to experience and that is a game that will be hard to watch
If there is any kind of competition, Luke will beat Emory without a doubt.

YES !!!!!! Build the offense around him. We’re not going anywhere soon and that’s obvious. Winning isn’t expected anymore at the U. No one fears the U. The QB isn’t the only problem in to next season, and this is the way it will be for years to come. It’s obvious it was arranged for ward to play a half at the bowl to break a record nothing more. The coaches knew what Emory was about they weren’t surprised and comparing him to ward isn't fair. Plus the cyclones took that 11th win more serious than Miami.

i think everyone would agree a veteran is the optimal way to go. But given the scenario a suitable one doesn't present himself, Nickel will be the best option.

Listening to Dmoney's podcast this morning, the belief is ND will be starting an unproven guy, too

Freeman has already told the press he’s not seeking another portal QB and going with what he’s already got on the roster.

He was also a five star number 1 player overall in the country regardless of position.

i like nickel, but lets not put some unrealistic expectation.

they also had DJU and Kubnik who are both *** to meh.

they also had a great roster around lawrence with Trevor Etienne and a great defense. we dont have a great defense and lose a lot of skill talent.

He won’t. If it’s Emory and Luke, he’ll go with Luke

agree to disagree on that one. hopefully it doesn't come to that but they lean experience

they specifically went for reese and ward this past offseason because we opened with the gators, don't see a scenario where we don't bring in at least one portal qb - even if it's not a flashy one
