Would you start Nickel and aim for 7-8 wins?

play him, take the lumps and hopefully solve the qb issue for a few years

Any coach that "aims" for mediocrity, regardless of the talent available to him, deserves to be taken behind the ol woodshed and given the ol yeller treatment....

You do this, Mario’s career at Miami lives or dies with Nickel.

You will win no more than 7 games next year. Ceiling. You lose to UF and ND, like 85%. You will garner no further WR portal interest. You probably lose @SMU and to Louisville. You lose at least two to Syracuse, @Pitt, @FSU, NC State and @ VT.

If 2026 is anything less than 9 wins, he’s fired. Done. No more excuses. At some point it’s pathetic. 5 years and it’ll be no ACC Championship appearances. Move on and fire him at that point.

it’s only worth it to ride with Nickel this year if you are **** SURE he’s a future All-Conference player. Mario has no grace period anymore. It’s gone.

I think we'd go 8-4 regular season with Nickel with a chance to win 9 depending on who we play in a Bowl game.

IF we can't entice a big time starter to come here before Spring camp, then I'd be good with rolling with the Jefferson coin.

We wouldn't win 7 games with Emory at QB, even with a fixed Defense & a stacked roster, we'd AT BEST be a 4 win team with Emory.

Which is why I was so vehement in the idea even being pitched at him being the guy for next year.

But from now until the start of Spring Camp, Mario needs to scour the Earth for any QB with prerequisite arm talent that he can find.
Come on man this team ain’t winning a bowl game anytime soon.

Has Mario ever started a true freshman at qb? He will limp through the season with Emory.
How many times has Miami rolled with a true freshman qb in the last 20 years? Twice? Kaaya and Morris in 2010 when Jacory got smoked against Virginia. I’m high on Nickel but ideally he redshirts next year while Miami brings in a portal guy for a year then Nickel has the keys in 2026.

We see freshmen do respectably all over the country but somehow Nickel can't do it seems to be the popular narrative. That game 1 no doubt is a hellish matchup for a freshman qb but after that what defense do we play really is all that scary ? And if the defense can improve to even average level we should be in almost every game we play while he grows week to week. For the record I want a bridge portal qb but Nickel is way better than any other qb prospect we've had here in recent memory.

**** no. This isn't the NFL where you benefit via the draft by having a poor win/loss record to let young guys develop. This is a make or break year for Mario. 5, 7, and 10 wins. Need to at the very least get back to 10 wins and a chance at ACC title game/CFP.

Nope... in the era of NIL there's millions of $$$ involved .
3 years to develop players ain't happening anymore
Can't slide any year or NIL will dry out overnight.

I think everyone is assuming Dawson will be back.... Man just had #1 Offense in the country... He's sure to get HC offers... Will he take any???. Who knows....
But it is a possibility...
