No... No Deion... Absolutely not...Only if the next guy is surely a better coach than him, and that I knew the program would give the same financial support. Coach Prime at Miami would be a scene!!
LaneMove on from him in favor of who, exactly? Who are we going to get that's any better?
i wonder if this same convo was being started January 8th last year, 5 days before we landed ward
not looking good but making these kind of narratives before the roster is finalized and before the games are played is naive
I’d take the chance, we got more money than Colorado, we’d probably get more talentNo... No Deion... Absolutely not...

It’s cool that Mario loves the U. I wish that made up for his coaching deficiencies.I have always felt that when it comes to Mario, the question is who else then. How many coaches today have won national championship? The other aspect is longevity for instance. What ties Ryan day or Dan Lanning to their current position. I don’t think either of those guys would hesitate to leave for an NFL job if the money were right.
In both of those scenarios, those coaches walked into winning situations. They were able to sustain that and elevate it, but still have no national championships. Although Ohio Ohio State might win this year. However, the common denominator between those two as they have significant financial backing in roster creation.
Mario could win multiple national championships and I doubt he would ever leave. I also don’t know if there’s another coach that would care and work as hard as he does to try and get things right.
With that being said, he clearly has plenty of deficiencies that leave you scratching your head. My hope is that as the game continues to change every year, so does he. We need to get to a more sustainable model of wins and season production. I personally think we’re closer to that than not.
If we move on from him, who do we replace him with and how long before we’re at the same question again?
Wait, you don't know about Butch Davis today? It's definitely a no, my guy.Butch 10-15 years ago absolutely, Butch today idk. Lane Kiffin as a offensive coordinator under Mario…absolutely
I think this is a resonable perspective. The 64K $$$ question is if Mario is dumped, who replaces him? As I’ve said many times, Miami is a unique situation that’ll take a transformational HC (Schnelly) to get things on track. How many of those are out there? To date, Mario hasn’t proven to be transformational and although he’s improved the roster, it still has many holes (pause). And we all know his game day shortcomings. This is a classic theory vs reality proposition. To the OP's credit, he sort of alluded to that when mentioning the financial support remaining. That said, in theory, I would love to find "a real coach" to replace Mario, but as several posters have pointed out, who exactly do we replace him with? Every single top dog coach out there right now has a couple warts at least and most of those warts are of the genital variety, spread via the portal and NIL. Kirby Smart is about to lose 30% of his roster. Nick Saban quit over this and so did Larrañaga (albeit different sport). Dabo the díldó is a flat Earther and doesn't think the portal is real. All this begs the question - Who exactly would you replace Mario with?
Every single year, there are football fans who are salivating as the season ends, waiting for management to fire their coach because he sucks. It is often celebrated. I am guilty of it. When Al Golden was here, I couldn't wait to get rid of him, especially in light of his buddy Onofrio remaining on the staff. Here's the thing though - you don't know that what you're getting is an improvement, especially in light of today's current climate with NIL and the portal. Long gone are the days of stealing away a recruit from a rival, just to bury him on your depth chart in an effort to prevent said player from beating you. There are no more transfer penalties. Because of these new variables, how do we even know who the best coaches really are right now, given the small sample size that we've had under these new non-rules? It seems obvious to me at this point that the "winners" are simply the schools with the biggest NIL budgets, regardless of corching. James Franklin sucks IMO, yet he's in the Final Four. Marcus Freeman? Eh, maybe, maybe not. Ryan Day is a goober who is hated by the OSU alumni. Sarkisian? He's a drunk with a lot of talent on his team. My point in listing those four coaches isn't to pick them apart (although I kinda just did), it's to shine a light on these are the top 4 coaches this year according to playoff results and I don't think I want any of them over Mario. Maybe Sark? Maybe Freeman, maybe? The other two? No thanks.
Firing the coach is the easy part. Replacing him is significantly more difficult. Keep Mario. Cross fingers. Mario has shown through his actions that he is very self-aware, at least retrospectively. He's turned over the secondary room in less than three weeks. He dumped the Cajun dunce. He got rid of Gattis. Dawson seems to be a great hire. Let's hope third time is the charm for the DC.
I'm finna get dragged for this, but that's ok. Throw your stones at me CiS.
It’s cool that Mario loves the U. I wish that made up for his coaching deficiencies.
I see it like this: arguing “we should keep Mario because there’s no other coach that loves their university as much as he does and he’s a great recruiter.” Is a VERY similar argument to “I want players that want to be Miami Hurricanes.”
I would rather have great players that came here because we paid them to do so. I would also rather have a coach that wins and quickly overcomes their deficiencies than someone like Mario who fixes things slowly one year at a time.
You know what would make me happy? If every, so-called Cane fan ,could get the coach they wanted. Everybody gets their own personal head coach. Then everybody would be happy, until the next year. Then yall want a new head coach. Coaching search is an addiction for this fan base. This fan base never heard of "the grass aint always greener". Cane fans want what everybody else got and won't appreciate what they had until its gone.Just curious how many people would hit a reset at head coach RIGHT NOW if they could. Here are the only assumptions (I know they aren't realistic):
1) There is no buyout, basically we get the Mark Richt deal
2) The financial support from the school does not change
