Worst Dline in Miami Hurricane Modern History?

Hands down worst pass rush IVe seen in a Very long time.. Duke saved the day, what a balla. Break it down Lucane, when time permits. You know ur stuff!

one thing to keep in mind is that we were playing BC and they usually always have good linemen. Factor in all the inexperienced guys we were playing on the Dline and maybe we wont be as bad as we looked today. At least I hope.

This.

This DL is never going to be great, but they will be better next week, and the week after that. Shannon's first year (2007?) was the worst DL I've ever seen, hands down. Bethune-Cookman has had better Defensive Lines every season they have existed than we had that year.

Also, while these guys got less penetration than my freshman year in high school, they played the right gaps and kept the running game under control.

I ****ed and moaned last year because we couldn't hold our lanes, and QB's would scramble through a hole my momma could run through. So. This is NOT the worst DLine we've ever had. We're holding our lanes, but we gotta throw someone else in once in a while to flatten the QB.

First game. They'll dissect film this week and learn a few things. It'll get better. I wonder how much sleep the kids got last night.

Jerome McDougle aint walking through that door.... And where have you gone Marvin Davis?

Simply put, it is, what it is

Its not the worst DLine in regards to talent...Miami's got some talent...Chickillo, Hamilton, McCord, Hoilett...but its all young. The upperclassmen are JAGs across the board, IMO.

But, by seasons end, by production, by performance...it might be the worst since the 60's.

That is bad news for Miami though...success in college football at the highest levels is often predicated by the defensive line...the best teams are talented, big, fast, and deep on the DLine...Miami right now is none of those. Step in the right direction next year adding Bryant, Bain, Bostwick. Could still use a defensive end.

Yeah I mean we aren't going to the championship game this year anyways but the good news is we have.a coach dedicated.to being talented in the trenches. We have a big haul coming this year and all reports sound good on the young guys this year. Usually you need a group of upperclassmen leading the DLine so it might be a while. We are on the way though I think.

It's time to get innovative with blitzes, different looks, stunts, twists, etc... These dudes suck ****. No QB can get that much time.

You gotta develop a culture where players play while they are at the University of Miami...the coaching has sucked over the past decade the team has taken on the personality of these guys...they've sucked...but its not like we've lacked talent...it is no where near that of 2002, and the talent is surely grossly exaggerated by the Nites of the world, but Miami has had players...but the culture at Miami has simply sucked the life out of them while they are here.

Gotta develop the culture. You are coming from an era of 'Canes that didn't put work in...a guy like Calais was a 2nd round pick and barely put time in in the gym while he was here. He is going to be better than any Alabama or LSU defensive player drafted in the past decade+ and he barely lifted weights in college. You are going to see Allen Bailey usurp collegiate greats like Tyson Jackson and Glenn Dorsey by his second year in the league. I hate to steal this one from D$, because I busted Colin McCarthy's balls as much as anyone while he was here...but if you were the Titans would you trade C-Murder for Rolando McClain? Javier Arenas...would you have him or Sam Shields. Would the Seahawks still draft James Carpenter over Orlando Franklin knowing what we know now? I like Mark Barron, but do you think he'll be much better than Kenny Phillips as a pro? LaRon Landy certainly isn't.

These SEC defenses are great...they got some great talent on them and they are just big nasty ********. But Miami gets them too...they just aren't nasty ******** while they are here and we don't have the same depth. Lets be real...Sam Montgomery and Mingo at LSU are very good big nasty ********. Recent trends show that Anthony Chickillo is more likely to be the better pro.

Miami hasn't had a Marcel Dareus or a Julio Jones or a Trent Richardson, and certainly not a Nick Saban in a long time (although, Duke Johnson surely is a Trent Richardson)...if you are saying that's the difference between Miami and Alabama...by all means, I'm cool with that. But, beyond that...Alabama might be a little deeper, but Miami has a track record of better players once the money is on the line. Unfortunately, the culture at Miami has pretty much made all of that moot over the past decade and that makes a world of difference, especially when it comes two the second tier players playing. You can have Denzel Perryman go into beast mode (Perryman is every bit as good as Nico Johnson or CJ Mosley, believe dat)...but if you got Tyrone Cornelius running around with his head cut off while you got Damion Square playing sound football...there is a big difference there.

Boston College returned all of it's OL from a very good OL last year.

Granted it doesn't change the fact we couldn't do a thing, but it's not like we were playing FAMU.

LOL @ saying this is the worst DL ever after 1 game. Hysterical much?

Shayon Green is too slow off the ball and Chick needs to rely on something else other than his motor. They need to work on more technique.

Our db's need a good/great pass rush to help them out. Today we had ZERO sacks !!!! The qb for BC had all day to pass, and passed at will. Especially the wheel route/flat by the TE/RB. The defensive line looked slow and uninspired. Not to say they will not improve, but in this game they were non existent. Our young secondary needs their help and if not it will a very long year. Zone blitz, bring a lb or two..where are the guys theat have a speed rush...Mccord,Cain,etc...You get this line to improve, you will see the back seven improve.

Close enough at least, I can't remember 97. Whether people want to admit it or not, Vernon was our best pass rusher last year whatever the numbers say. He was just far more explosive than Chickillo probably ever will be. And Ojomo was probably the most underrated player on that D given what he contributed inside. We took away two strong points and didn't add much yet--too young on the newbies. There are some ways that they can work around this if down and distance is known (whether it's rush 3 or zone blitz), but they can't win the downs to get to a 3rd and long.

I've looked and scoured the recruiting services, but there doesn't appear to be any standouts. In the JC ranks thus far. All the talent is at DT. JMO, but we need to turn up the heat with Toby Johnson.

Also, I think more and more, Franklin should be under the microscope. Say what you will about old man Petri, but that guy is a rock solid technical instructor. These guys seem like they don't even know how to execute a swim move, or an E/T stunt. When a kid like Ojomo makes an NFL roster, it tells me that maybe we do have talent here, but the inept coaching can't bring it it out of them.

A win is a win, but the defense as a whole is a huge concern. Not exactly sold on this DC just yet either.

Need an infusion of JuCo talent at DEnd immediately.

def need this D to step up as a whole this yr. that kind of early performance will end up giving us L's in the box score as better teams will punish us.
