Worst Dline in Miami Hurricane Modern History?

our DL play was awful...even our "best players" failed to get pressure on the QB...that guy threw for almost 500 yards..WTF..SMH ...We need help ASAP

they were not getting any pass rush but held the point of attack vs the run.

we are still awful on 3rd and long and most of it stems from zero pressure from the front 4.

the 2007 DL was worse than this one though IMO

Might want to wait a few more games before making that declaration. I really think this may be the WOAT. If we can get Porter back healthy, and he can stay healthy, it could improve things a lot, but we may need to throw in some FROSH into the 4 deep at DT. These guys were a disaster.

Is the issue talent or the scheme we're running upfront? I think we could get pressure off the edges if we used speed rushing techniques. Everything we do seems to be engage and redirect. The combination of no speed rushing techniques off the edges and drop spotting underneath zone coverages is going to put major stress on a defense.

it is a combo of scheme and lack of talent IMO.

it looks like the DL is just trying to control their gaps and not really put pressure. we are gonna have to find some pressure from the LB spot and did on a few plays. they looked pretty good against the run though.

I think we'll do well vs GT fwiw

I'd have to ask if we're engaging because we don't trust that we have the guys to get around the edge. Everything we're doing on defense right now is based on hesitation. Our blitzes are late (safe). Our looks are the same pre and post snap. Our DEnds seem to be playing 5-tech and 2-gap, or so it seems from the live look?

Like Able said in another thread, I hold my breath every time an opposing QB drops back to pass. I remember growing up and hoping QBs would drop back to pass so that they'd either get killed or it'd be picked off.

Worst Dline in UM history? Oh, I don't know about that. There was a time when Denny Fortney was our best DL.

What I wouldnt give for a Denny Fortney or a Matt Sweeny on that line right now. Our pass rush today was about the worst thing I have ever seen.

I actually think Bigtip is correct in that we're attempting to control run gaps. In previous years I thought we played this because of poor linebacking play. The thing is we do this on obvious passing situations, too. The question is why engage on obvious passing situations. Our blitz packages are basically ineffective, have been for years. In addition, if the blitz doesn't get there, we are in serious trouble because those passing seams are huge. I said this in the gameday thread that we should look at running some combination coverages where we take away the TE and/or slot receiver using man coverage. If we can't pressure there using the current scheme we need to take away the inside receivers.

Going up into the Perryman pick-6 and even after it, did you see the windows for slant patterns and seam routes? My eyes nearly popped out of my head.

Losing porter hurt. Fingers crossed that porter + l rob can look different from what we saw today. At DE, it is what it is. Dont see much room for improvement there this year. Unfortunately, youth and injuries mean our lbs arent ready to generate much in the way of pressure either.

I defended D'No last year but I'm starting to think hes just not that good (I hope I'm wrong).

That Dline was embarrassingly bad. Our 2013 recruiting class should fix that but won't see the fruits of that til 2014.

It wasn't too long ago a 245 pound Vegas Franklin was playing DT. We'll be alright once Porter gets back. BC has a very good O-line.

Yep. The Perryman interception was just great playmaking ability where he got to his landmark and read the eyes of the QB. We used that nic blitz today and basically got that one play off of it. The receiver actually had the corner beat to the inside on that slant route. It is either create pressure or cover better. I tend to lean towards covering better because our blitz packages provide huge windows for chunk yardage.
