Wiltfong with Crystal Ball for Tyrique

Question: If Stevenson already signed with UGA, wouldn’t it be a violation for our coaches to be in contact with him? Couldn’t that be considered tampering?

Sounds like Mom won out here
Why does mom win out ? Kid going to a school that's a power, going to play for an HC who's knowledge of defense is second to none,
and has a great opportunity to be a playoff team year in year out

LOL...you were conceding TS to Miami just a few days ago.

Based on what? Support that statement with stats and names you don’t have to Google.

How about we go after all of the names (S/CB prospects) he missed on? If you're telling me I can't Google stats or names, then that tells me you don't want to have a serious discussion on the matter. It may be a pipe dream, but for one, a guy like Corey Raymond would be an immense upgrade over Banda; he also coaches the entire secondary, not just a select group.

Also, my point was that we could upgrade at the position with a guy that could develop AND recruit. The context of your response makes it seem like Banda is one of the top assistant coaches in the nation. I don't think he is.

In terms of recruiting, Banda is part of the previous regime that couldn't get a read on kids. The Jobe situation was one of his biggest misses (not that he missed, but because he couldn't see the signs and should've moved on).

Banda turned Jamal Carter and Rayshawn Jenkins into NFL players. Then he turned Sheldrick Redwine and Jaquan Johnson into NFL players. We also had a top 5 pass defense.

Firing him would be insanity.

Calling it insanity is hyperbole. Our Top 5 pass defense was a solid unit with a drastically inflated ranking having gone up against a murderers row of LSU/Wisconsin (extremely run-heavy), Bethune Cookman/Savannah State/FIU (no explanation needed), and woeful ACC Coastal opposition that included Georgia Tech's triple option.

Look at the resume of an actual top DB coach like Corey Raymond just from the last 3 years. NFL studs in Jamal Adams and Tre'Davious White. Donte Jackson was arguably the top rookie CB in the league this year. Then you have Grant Delpit and Greedy Williams as sure-fire first rounders currently in their secondary.

Should we be boasting about developing overachievers who simply made it to the NFL, or should we be landing the cream of the crop who eventually compete to win Thorpe Awards and become first-round draft picks? What's the standard Miami should be striving for?

Raymond is just one example, but this shouldn't be an either-or scenario between recruiting and player development.

He’s done a good job with the safeties. But he has shown he cant close in recruiting. Hes landed Hall but thats it. One elite DB over 3 cycles is not acceptable given our recruiting base.
So basically in the same boat as rumph . Good coach but isn’t an elite recruiter

Raymond is just one example, but Rumph/Banda's recruiting has been as poor as the player development has been solid. This shouldn't be an either-or scenario.

I should've just used your post. Spot on assessment.

I like @DMoney, but we're now bragging about simply sending bodies to the NFL now. Back in the day, we considered it a failure if we're sending safeties in the NFL who weren't 1st round picks. The more in-depth resume of a guy like Raymond says he'd be a better upgrade. Is it realistic, that's up for debate.

Rumph strikes me as a great technical coach, but a mediocre recruiter. @dsddcane mentioned a week back that the safeties actually go to Rumph for advice/coaching. Banda was (from public perception) paired with Rumph and was deemed the recruiter. By all accounts, Banda's results are not that much better than Rumph's from a recruiting perspective.

"Even though Stevenson was already signed when former defensive coordinator Manny Diaz was named the head coach at Miami, he was happy to see it.
“It shocked me,” Stevenson stated. “It’s a real eye-opener.”

Sounds to me like he would be at the U if this happened earlier.

There is a reason Corey Raymond is the only DB coach that anybody has ever heard of. He’s a great coach, he gets paid a ton and he works for a school with a decade-long track record of first round DBs.

Banda has coached up the guys he inherited. That’s a great sign. Let’s see what he does with guys like Gurvan Hall and Keontra Smith.

Banda liked a post Stevenson made yesterday about Diaz. Why like his post if he chose Georgia?

Because he cares about these kids. He worked his *** off building a relationship with the kid and lost.

Those are the guys he inherited from Paul Williams. At least three about them were about to go pro in something other than football. Now they are NFL players.

That is what coaching and teaching is all about.
