Coming out of High School he was a 4* kid, but he still has yet to show signs of the disruptive DT we all imagined he would become. Now I am a very strong believer that defensive lineman should not be expected to contribute until their 3rd year in a college program. With this being Jalen's 3rd year here does he have what it takes to take the next step and contribute?

Jalen Grimble Career Stats
2011 Saw action in seven games 0 Tackles 0 Sacks
2012 Saw action in eight games 6 Tackles 0 Sacks

I think he is the classic case of a kid who needed a redshirt year but was forced into action out of necessity. From the little I have seen I just do not see the explosiveness or strength it takes from him to make a impact here. I pray that I am wrong, I would be beyond happy to see him become a fixture in the DT rotation for multiple reasons.

1. He will give Miami 5 DT's who have been in the program for 3 years
2. He will keep Moore and Ivey on the sideline (unless serious injuries happen)

I guess we'll see. There's really no telling from any info we have.

Does anyone have his UTough strength numbers? Or how they've progressed? Even that wont tell too much. Gotta see it on the field come fall practice.

If Porter and Pierre stay healthy, he shouldn't get alot of playing time unless he just comes out and demands it with his practice play. That would be nice to see. Him and Earl Moore. Having a nice rotation could be big for keeping Porter and Pierre healthy.

Grimble plays DE for us. He was a 4 star but his competition in high school was laughable. Im pulling for the kid, but I doubt he makes a significant impact this season.

Perfect example of a kid playing wayyyy to early because of no depth on the DL and a kid who was young for his class. The kid was 17 and getting lots of playing time his freshman year. Kid should be a rs soph right now and developing more. Same with Jimmy Gaines who was young for his class and should have rs..

since you used 7 question marks in your title, i sense the urgency in your question so I rushed over, read your question and concluded that your question does not require an urgent response.

p.s. when you ask question in person do you stress your question in a similar fashion?

Anything positive would satsify me. The thread title should be changed to "a step" next season.

With the state of the defensive line, I believe any question about a d-lineman is extremely urgent. We all are searching for answers how to fix the worst defensive line in the history of the program. I would appreciate it if you could actually provide a meaningful answer other than your assholish and condescending remarks.

lol ...^good answer....

Jalen is a bad fix for this Defense system
DL/DE with little power and little to no speed

A smallish DT needs to be quick and explosive off the snap, which he is not, which hurts him at DE also.

Make or break year for him IMO.

Worst DL in the history of the program? Son, did you just start following the program last year? Yeah, it's not national championship caliber, but let's take a deep breath and not sound like the world's coming to an end. Give it time to develop and improve. And yes, there is reason to anticipate a step or two will be made this fall.

2012 d line was the worst University of Miami defensive line I have ever seen in all of my life. I understand that last season this team was playing 1 JR, 2 SO's & 3 FR's in the rotation for most of the season and that is a for sure recipe for disaster. I do believe that the d-line will make a huge jump this season, I even expect to see good things from Cory King unlike most. My only is will Jalen Grimble be able to contribute.

Sack totals of the last 9 years (I am sure it will be very difficult to find a lower total than 13)
2012: 13
2011: 23
2010: 37
2009: 23
2008: 30
2007: 31
2006: 38
2005: 35
2004: 38
2003: 48

yeah my comments was assholish, sorry about that , but I can't stand ???? or ?!?!?!

13 sacks is simply pathetic. I can't imagine that we're THAT void of talent. Gotta be something else going on.
