We couldn’t stop a leak. Multiple reasons why this D was bad this year but something very telling to me is that last year Kinchens absolutely regressed under Guidry where he was an AA the year before. Ironically he has won defensive player of the week 2 times as a rookie. The proof is in the pudding. I get why Mario hired him and the potential it could have become but he just isn’t a power 5 coach.

But we were #24 in the nation!
I’m going to give Mario the benefit of the doubt here and say that he was pushing that BS as a last ditch effort to get us into the CFP. He’s not stupid. He saw what we all saw…a defense that got worse as the season went on. That falls on coaching. Let’s see how this plays out. I think Guidry is gone which means absolutely bunk coming from me.

So it’s 100% consensus Guidry is significantly to blame or anyone still want to out it all on the personnel? Going once??
Combination of both. Secondary (minus OJ, who did get cooked vs Cuse) was abysmal - but I place majority of the blame on Harris. Meesh had some bad moments as well but he also had some major moments to at least somewhat balance out his bad moments/play.

Harris was absolutely, undisputedly the weak spot on the DEF - and because Markeith and the freshmen weren’t ready to play, it hamstrung everyone, including Guidry IMO.

There’s just no way that Guidry, whom beat a 10 win Clemson team with basically ZERO help from our offense, just forgot how to coach defense. To me, it is fair to say perhaps he needs super solid players at Safety position for his DEF to be successful, but I say based on his full body of work, he’s earned the opportunity to run the DEF in Year 3 with Mario supplying him super solid Safety players via the portal.

Dawson struggled mightily with TVD/Emory and guys wanted him gone after last year too - he gets Cam and now has the #1 OFF in college football.

Dawson needs his QB and Guidry needs strong players at the Safety position.

Here's my stance. Guidry's defense was terrible because the Safeties were absolutely dog **** this year. Meesh should've been a Nickel Corner all year, not our Safety shot caller. But the thing that's hard to forgive ...Guidry is the safety coach. None of the guys he coached LAST YEAR, was prepared to take over this year. Not only that, but he continually put out Jaden Harris as a starter for 12 games while Harris routinely made disastrous mistakes, terrible coverage decisions, and took horrific angle's from Game 1,all the way through the end of the season. Guidry stuck with him despite the absolute worst safety play in the last few decades of Miami football. I'd take Gurvan Hall in a heartbeat over Jaden Harris. Guidry had every possible reason to bench Harris and give Markeith Williams, or, literally anybody else, a chance to play opposite Meesh and dethrone Harris. But he gave that opportunity to nobody. He didn't even try to shuffle the DB room and allow one of the corners a chance to out play Harris. He evaluated and picked 3 transfer DBs that sticks with me...Demetrius Freeney (barely played, gone after a year), Terry Roberts (joined and left in the same off season), and Savion Riley (joined and left in the same off season). All of them were invited by Guidry and all of them transferred right back out and haven't done ANYTHING after leaving. They were just bad players. With how bad the Safety play is, I wouldn't be surprised if JT is livid watching his son on the bench while Harris makes simple defensive errors time after time.
