No we missed out on chatman as well. This D-Line class outside of nesta is terrible. We we're forced to offer Jordan miller a scholarship strictly because we could not get anyone else.

This. Jordan Miller is not a Miami caliber DT, just like Nigel Bethel is not a Miami caliber CB.

They were only offered because we whiffed on everyone else, and the staff must have known that it was coming.

When the staff was hired people knew we had a LOT of questionable hires. It has come to fruition. Its not hard to sell UGA over Miami right now when UGA fired our coach. Pretty simple really.

Miami needed elite COACHING to get back. Instead we went with the "program manager" and "Recruiter" vibe and it will once again fail us.

Maybe Butch would have been the better choice.

We can't afford to financially battle all the teams trying to sign him to get him to come.

We actually did not finish poorly...

For some reason, people on this forum thought Miami had a chance with players that had very little to no interest in Miami throughout the process or players committed elsewhere.

We otherwise landed who we were expected to land today. Nesta, Miller, Bethel, and Ezzard.

There were no flips or surprise commitments.

We missed out on several key players, but we missed out on them LONG before today despite courtesy visits and late interest.

Umm, last time I checked these coaches are getting paid a hefty sum to convince these young men to play for there program. Or are we asking our coaches to recruit kids who would attend Miami no matter what? If we have the mindset that you are stating, well than there is really no need to even bother recruiting kids like Ezzard, Mallory, Jordan, etc. Because I can assure you those are not kids who always had intentions of playing at Miami. Those kids were recruited and sold on the idea of becoming a Hurricane.

With that being said, you should also have a built-in advantage recruiting kids that are local. If you disagree, please go look at elite level programs and tell me how they are fairing with kids in there own backyard. While we keep missing on elite level talent at home. Point is, it the staff's **** job to convince kids to come here.

You are just not listening sad. Number 5 class and you want to act like we should have gotten kids who were not going here this time. Focus on the ones we did get fella, number 5 class. Ok??

I agree, if we lost Nesta then it would of been bad. No flips today. Goes back to only wanting the players who want to be here, want to be CANES. We got 19 early, 4 today and a couple of grad transfers. Yes, could of been a great class, but is still the best class we have had in years. Still a step in the right direction, I for one am happy with a top 10 class.

They must be **** sure Shaq & Mike are coming back. I still can’t grasp only taking Joyner.

Those two AH CBs are not the kind of players that sign with us.

Wow, that’s a new one. They went on to sign w the two teams that just played in the national championship. Those aren’t the types of kids we want to sign with us? That’s Manut Bol level reach there

Nope. He"s right. A friend of mine, now deceased, used to tell me the marquee players are not UM's players. I've been following UM recruiting since the mid-80's. There is dough revisionist history about UM recruiting, thinking we just cleaned up on 5 stars. That was never true. We did get a 5 star here, a 5 star there. Mainly we built our program on very good players, kids with potential, who just kept on better and better at the U. We outworked everybody else and had more heart than everybody else.

When we recruited Jessie Armstead, we got everybody's best player, the top 5 star. I think Darren Smith was in the same class and I'm not sure he wasn't better as a freshman.

A better comparison might have been D.J. Williams and Jon Villa. Their first August, I started to hear reports about how Villa was better than Williams. Vilma was just some local kid from Coral Gables, Williams was the top HS player in the country.

Look at this kid who just left--the five star from Sacramento. He had what, a hundred offers, or so he claimed. What happened to him?

Today was just like so many other days I've seen over the years. We were always spurned by the rock star recruits, going back to the dud, Sterling Palmer from Broward in the '80's. And we got Russ Maryland, who almost nobody wanted, who became a real star. In comparison, Jordan Miller was recruited like a superstar in comparison to Russ Maryland. Even though there might be fewer hidden gems now in comparison to the '80's, I think Jordan Miller might prove there still are.

I do think our coaches might have been over confident, thinking we would get our targets and keeping Norton and McIntosh. They did not have backup plans. They should have been looking at Jucos. I'd rather have a Juco who can play rather than a fairly average red shirt senior transfer.

As far as getting elite players, what really was the story with D.J. Johnson, or whatever his name is? So much fanfare coming in, but so little talk going out. Did not even last a year.

Butch was not an elite coach. His game day sidelines were like Chinese fire drills.

Sorry if I offend any Asians out there. If you DO think Butch adventure, then maybe it was a compliment.

By the way, some of you guys are so gullible about some of the so-called insiders that have been on this board. I smelled a rat with some of these guys who will now pull a disappearing act.

As of now 247 says we have a top 5 class. Screenshot_2018-02-07-13-13-16-519.webp
How do you define good? Top 3?

This time? Seems like every year we lose out on the best players in SF..

I agree that Butch was a bad game day corch. However he made up for it in recruiting.

We had an insane early signing period. You aren't going to see teams clean up ( for the most part ) in both signing periods. UGA is the one exception. Bama had an off early signing period but did well today. We did the opposite . Would you rather of struck out in December ?

The class is great. Best in a decade. Arguably the best in the country on offense and only average on defense.

But only 2-3 teams in the country have a class that perfectly covers every hole. Everyone is on an emotional streak. Fair criticism is fair but have some perspective.

It's never as bad as it seems. But it also wasn't as great a finish as we had hoped. Let's be clear, Willie Taggart can recruit. He sold both Chatman and Briggs on FSU when basically one or both could have walked on campus in CG and been in the two deep. That's selling water to a drowning man in a pool. Briggs was always in love with FSU, and Chatman is a head case. I said that from day one with him. He committed and decommitted to 2 different schools. And I'm told at one time wanted to commit to Miami but was rejected when he was dancing with LSU at the same time. Miami came back at him simply because he is talented and their need at the position. But, we got the best DT in the Country from what I could tell in Nesta. And a kid in Miller who you'all are dismissing, but I'm telling you, by the time this kid is a redshirt Sophomore, he will be terrorizing the ACC.
