Who is the best team?

UGA laid an egg in the first half against bama but they are clearly the best team in the country

UGA
Oregon
Ohio State
- us?
Texas - those qb problems make them not elite
penn state - haven't played anyone yet - they are overrated
Bama / LSU / etc

I didn’t even mention the crazy “bottom feeder” teams that are surprisingly good this year. Indiana, Army and Navy are all undefeated. Vandy is a good team. A wide open Big XII. SMU making a run at the ACC championship game in their first season as a p4 team.

Vandy is a solid team.
They go into the 4th tied with Ball State yesterday, then seal the 10 point win with a TD with 8 minutes to go.
Yes, crazy.

Unpopular thought: “IF” cfb playoff and the conferences stayed as is, would it actually be better for us to stay in the acc, with the new performance bonus structure payouts and just dominate the acc for honestly an easier path to playoffs? Yes, im a i hate the acc dude, but seeing the sec just beat each other up, that will be the norm moving forward and complicate who gets in. A bunch of 1-2 lost teams in same conference with a claim to the 12 team playoffs.
The SEC and BIG10 are angling for 8 automatic playoff bids between them.

Factor in that their media rights deals are going to bring in tens of millions of dollars a year more into their programmes than ours and you're quickly just making up the numbers if you get into the Playoffs from another conference.

The Canes are like Washington last year or Oklahoma under Lincoln Riley.

We can say they don’t have enough on defense to win the title, but they are in the top group. The offense is good enough to beat anybody in a shootout.

the top 12 are:

GEORGIA
OREGON
OHIO STATE
PENN STATE
TEXAS
TENNESSEE
LSU
CLEMSON
NOTRE DAME
BYU
MIAMI
INDIANA

In that order. Until we can show we can hold an offense with a pulse to under 40 points, we are just a great offense with a really good punter and kicker.

That’s a playoff caliber team, potentially, but not a great one.
Why is Penn State so high? They lucked out by USC crapping that game away. Who have they beaten? If they wore orange and green, they’d be a lot closer to #12.

Why play the games when several teams with losses are ranked above those without a loss? Just crown the $EC the winner and move on to Recruiting where we are the real #1.

I'm keeping an eye on Tennessee, who beat the mighty Gator...at home...by 6....in overtime.
I honestly have no idea. I’m just jaded that the $EC behaves as though they’re swinging 16” between their legs and we are all just supposed to take it (pause), while the media does their bidding and keeps the narrative going.

Only one way to fix it - beat those MFers.

I think yesterday was the best the offense has looked all year. If we can continue to manufacture 12-15 play drives that eat up 7-8 minutes each, I think we can hang with anyone regardless of our defense. Perfect balance yesterday and stellar use of multiple backs.

You’re going to just discount Tennessee being in a death struggle with the same Florida team we destroyed? Or Notre Dame literally losing to Northern Illinois? Or LSU losing to a 3-3 USC team?

I get Miami’s defense is not good enough to make them the best team in the country. I won’t argue that but ****, you’re penalizing close wins more than actual losses here. Aliso, is it worse to win a close shootout game than a close game where nobody can score? A 44-40 win is the same margin as a 14-10 win.

I agree with you.

My point was that we beat uF by 4 scores, and UT squeaks by them at home.
I have a feeling they'll be right up our asses when the new polls come out later.

I mentioned earlier that Ball State took Vandy into the 4th quarter.
The same Vandy team that beat Bama.

Since this is all we have to compare, I don't know why results like these are ignored.

The SEC is like this guy I used to play golf with.
He was always good for a mulligan (or two) on the front and back nine.

Don't know why when SEC teams are evaluated, somehow OOC games are discounted.

Every week I watch college football and it’s getting harder and harder to tell who is actually the top dog out there. Texas got hammered by Georgia who lost to Bama and struggled against a Kentucky team that the gators beat. Bama lost to a Tennessee team that hadn’t scored a first half point in theee weeks and barely squeaked out a victory against the gators a week earlier.

The likely new #1 is Oregon but does the best team in college football struggle against Idaho and Boise State? Ohio State would make a claim if they hadn’t just lost to Oregon last week.

We’re in the midst of what might be the best college football season in at least a decade because nobody is a sure-fire lock to win every game. The best teams all have flaws and it really makes for exciting games on a week to week basis. And I’m not even counting my weekly heart attack watching our beloved Canes.

I don’t know if it’s the transfer portal or the fact that NIL has leveled the playing field against the long time cheaters but it’s so refreshing not to k ow who is the runaway national champion with half a season still to play.
I mean.... if this isn't clear 100% proof that every week is a new week then I don’t know what is. That's why I don't get caught up into who a team lost to.

I still think the best two teams are in the Big 10.

The SEC is overrated imo, anyone can beat anyone but they all have flaws.

1. Ohio State (they lost to Oregon due to two swing plays - the Judkins fumble and the Oregon weird onside kick, not to mention Howard not running out of bounds). They would still be favored in a rematch.

2. Oregon
3. Georgia (getting a healthy Mykel Williams completely changed their defense, and they’re still without an All-SEC LB; HOWEVER, Beck is extremely mid and can easily lose them another game or two).

4. Texas
5 and on - completely up for grabs between LSU/A&M/Miami/Ole Miss/Clemson).

I’m out on Penn State, Bama, Tennessee, any BIG 12 team, Notre Dame.

I still think Ole Miss is sneaky here - the LSU game they left 17 points on the board 1Q and were without arguably the best WR in college football in Tre Harris for a majority of the 2H. Their DL is legit; I would not want to play them in December if they end up making a run down the stretch.

LSU’s defense has improved tremendously with no Harold Perkins on the field. Weeks is a baller. Additionally, they’re still missing two weapons at WR that are getting healthier by the week, should be back soon.
