What can we expect from Joseph Yearby in his freshman year?

No football analysis to add, Lu/1775's convo covered that pretty well, but just wanted to add... dude could not seem any more likable in his interviews. He really strikes me as the type of guy that's really easy to root for. Doesn't seem to be any diva in him. Kid from Dade that stayed home, lost a little shine amongst some of our fans late in the process to the traitor that went north.... I want this kid to explode. Has all the makings of a favorite.

Can't imagine a kid having a Duke like impact for a long long time around here. Simply because they won't be needed or asked to. Yearby is my guy though. That other dude is a legit stud no doubt but gimme the kid that's been doing work on Dade County defenses since he picked up a football. Yearby has that special ability to find creases and use his extra terrestrial vision to keep bigger more athletic defenders off balance. You can't teach that. I expect him to get a decent amount of looks this year as he transforms his body. Next year is going to be a big one for him.

I'm expecting some jaw dropping 15 - 25 yard runs, and 400 yards rushing. I don't see him going 30+ against D1 opponents.

Great guy who will be a very good college RB. But size and speed limit his ceiling IMO. I see his career being closer to Graig Cooper than Duke.

He's a much,much better RB than Cooper was.Cooper couldn't shake defender.

Change of pace. Some swing routes. Will juke at least a handful of guys out of their cleats.

85 Carries
395 yards
6 TDs
10 catches
110 yards

For historical references:

Devonta Freeman got 120 carries as a Frosh at FSU.
Gus Edwards got 66 carries last year.

Spot on, but I think Yearby will be closer to 500 yards with less TD's. I'm thinking Gus will get those goal line secondary carries that Duke doesn't get.

Like I said, much of our fan base had no clue how great Yearby is.

yeap. you can't teach what yearby has. yearby can put muscle on his frame (like duke was forced to do) and still maintain his freakishly quick feet. i am looking forward to watching this guy over the next few years.

400-500 yards.

Has elite change of direction and cuts similar to one Frank Gore.

Cooper was good. But Cooper never lived up to his hype.

But Yearby is better. Yearby can be great.

Yearby IMO, is like a former nole who was great, I know I know it's a nole. But, Warrick Dunn. Yearby can be like that. Dunn was a stud, nole or not and in the nfl.

And I'm thinking for Yearby freshman numbers.

500-600 rush yards
6 rush TDs
100-200 rec yards
1-2 rec TDs

Yearby IMO, has a higher ceiling than Cooper. More explosiveness in short areas and better balance...

He'll get his feet wet and get some serious burn against FAMU and if CANES are winning in a blowout

Really i was thinking he would be taken most of gus carries since Yearby is the second best rb on the team. Gus went from number 2 when Duke went down to number 4 on the team

He is going to get some serious run but he won't have the impact duke did. Gus is gunna be used short yardage (if he learned how to lower those pads) and Gray will be used in special kind of packages but yearby will get the bulk of regular carries of the backups. Plus unless Kaaya has a manziel/winston kind of impact were gunna run it quite a bit. It wouldn't shock me if he gets 600-800 yards and 5 or 6 TDs.

Gus development is key...bigger, stronger, lowering the pad level, sounds great....but if he can actually translate that into games, he is the huge change of pace to Duke this offense will need to keep Duke healthy. Last year we were running stretch plays for 3rd and 1-3 plays with Dallas and letting him take a beating that Duke cannot afford. We need some nice quick hitting N-S offensive play calling this year on third down and I hope Gus can provide the push when our OL won't......if so, we are going to see some nice play action pass on third downs as well....Yearby is going to provide some fun shake up at times for sure.

Running back wear out as the season moves forward. We'll be seeing a lot of Gus, Yearby and Chocolate this year. I'd guess 4-7 touches per game for Yearby.

Is pass blocking something that could limit his reps until he puts on some more size? Haven't heard much about this....is he a relatively good pass blocker for his size? Love his potential......

Comparing Cooper to Yearby is a crime. Cooper was solid but was horrid in the open field. If Yearby is anything close to Cooper we are in trouble.

Much higher ceiling. Cooper had the balance of Humpty Dumpty. Yearby's whole game is balance and quick cuts while not losing speed.

As I recall, Warrick Dunn was incredibly fast.

From the brief highlights I've seen of Yearby, Shady McCoy is a better pro comparison.
