We shouldn't self-impose another post-season ban

what team has received a 3 year post season ban? am I missing something? why do so many of you think that will happen. I'd say there is no chance of that.

There is so much bad information in this thread that I'm tempted to start one and explain how things actually work...maybe if I have time this weekend. The 'Canes aren't playing, so I might have some time on Saturday.

USC got 2. Penn State got 4.

I think we're in the middle, but in no case less than 2.

You self-impose at the beginning of the year so you're not betraying players and recruits who expected Miami to play in a bowl game. Golden is selling these guys on winning the Coastal and playing for the ACC championship game. "My bad, guys. We ain't going to Charlotte."

^^^this is the whole story. there is ZERO chance of us self imposing after clinching the coastal. sorry

if self-imposing at the beginning of the season is so logical, why didn't we do it last year?

2 is most likely. i can't see 3 happening. but ohio state had 1 tacked on because the ncaa didn't think that vacating a season, giving back bcs money, reducing scholarships, and putting themselves on probation was enough. self-imposing a bowl ban would likely mitigate probation and/or reduce a potential loss of scholarships. you have to look long-term

Probably because the news broke less than a month before the season. No time to get their ducks in a row and thoroughly assess the situation.

We are supposed to get the NOA at the end of this month. I say we wait till then, if it looks bad (LOIC) then we self-impose the ACCCG and bowl, if it doesn't look too bad (Failure to Monitor) then we go to Charlotte and lose to the Noles again.

Uhhh sorry. We don't have the NOA yet, but we will in a couple weeks. That probably has an impact on whether we self-impose anything.

There's no guarantee we get the NOA by the end of the month. That's all speculation. And even if it's true, the ACCCG game is December 1st. We can't back out that quickly.

we assessed it enough to know duration of suspensions before the season started. at which point, we probably knew a bowl ban was happening anyway.

I can tell you it'll matter more to Alex Collins if he misses a bowl game next year than if we miss our 2nd bowl game this year.

No disrespect, Lu, but are you telling me no bowl next year is a deal breaker for Collins? He doesn't have the patience to wait if things do turn out as bad as some fear?

I'm not telling you anything other than Collins really gives A BIG **** about sanctions and bowl games. He's like Clinton Portis in his mentality and attitude. He's really good, knows he's really good, and (this part is speculation) likely considers himself a star for 3 years (before leaving). Yes, I think a bowl ban during his tenure would play a role in his decision and I know for a fact he's highly in tune with what will happen vis a vis sanctions.

We can hope kids are as crazy Canes as Duke, and maybe Collins is a bigtime loyalist, but I don't think it's unreasonable for him to worry about his bottom line.

3 year bowl ban my ***. 2 years maybe and 5 ships a year for 3 years. So our violations are closer to the deliberate and systematic cover-up of repeated child rape by university officials over a 10 year period? GTFOH with that isht!

why would Collins care THAT much about a bowl ban? It's not like university of miami doesn't get national exposure.

Thanks, Lu. I could understand worrying about 2 more years if I'm him, but 1 surprises me that it matters so much -I am not thinking wer're BCS bound next year.

You know what.... I'm happy that we are able to have this debate.

Our record is ******, our team is mediocre, yet somehow we are discussing ACCCG and a potential OB berth. One is more possible than the other, but overall.... I'm pleased we are having this discussion and not another "Fire XYZ", "Donna hates football" discussion.

Don't know if it's 1 or 2 or just overall. He's concerned about sanctions. If that's our biggest concern, I trust Golden can make him feel at ease (assuming we don't get killed).

I would impose a ban now. The longer this university, football program, coach, players, and fans, have to have this linger, the worse. You can't lose sleep over 1 player. As a program, we have to get back to the business of winning, having a clean slate, and not offering other programs currency to negatively recruit against us.

Impose. Move on. Win. Dominate.
