I’m not sure how Lane potentially leaving after 3 years is being seen as a bad thing...
If Lane comes here & has immediate success then leaves, it will make Miami a more attractive program for coaches around the country. Aside from all the Dinosaurs of yesteryear, Miami is really only an attractive job to former Canes lol, we have to break that cycle & this would be the perfect opportunity to do that.
It’s not really a forgone conclusion that he would leave early anyway, but even if he did, so what?
Would you rather have a coach be here for 10 years & only be a 8-4/9-3 type or have a guy come in & catch lightning in a bottle for a couple of seasons & then leave the door open for the next rising star?
Yall want us to be Iowa & have a Kirk Ferentz type that’s here for 20+ years, but this is Miami not Iowa, yall gotta stop thinking so timid & small, we ain’t in the middle of nowhere in Plainesville USA, we’re in one of the biggest metropolitan hubs in America, Miami is BIG city vibes & big city culture. Stop tryna have us be a small college town cult lol
If he delivers, he can leave early, fck it, we’ll find another new coach, I like the flexibility of not being stuck with one coach for a decade lol
I really don’t have a coaching preference other than we need new coaching, but this idea of backing off of somebody because they might only be here three years is so dumb, especially when we don’t even have a coach right now.
It should not be included in the pros and cons of any coach, who is to say if Mario is hired and has a good three or four years that the NFL might not call, or he might even get a better offer from another college and bolt.
I think you have to look at several issues when you’re listing the pros and cons of coaches, and I see this longevity issue as way down on the list of my concerns. I mean way way down.
There are things that I like about Mario and Lane, and there are things that I don’t like about either one of them.
Right now you’re getting people heavy breathing and engorged with their inadequate tumescence because Lane pumped his fist and jumped up and down like a high school cheerleader last night.
The reason to like Lane it’s because of the offense he runs, and how it fits with the type of athletes we have and will probably continue to get, he’s technically very competent on offense, that’s exciting. Not his on field histrionics, I could care less about that. That’s prisoner of the moment shallow thinking.
With Mario there were other things to like, but his future I think will be strongly affected by the type of offense, and offensive coordinator, that he chooses.
But either way, it’s important to look at the actual fit from a schematic and program building perspective.
If Mario wins this weekend, and shows some emotion on the sideline, watch the guys that are Mario or bust, ejaculate over his on field fist pumping. Just like they became more breathless when he got in somebody’s face one time.
I’m not in either camp, but I hate this prisoner of the moment thinking. You have to look at things logically. Now I believe that you have done that, but because you like Lane’s schematic fit. That’s a better way of looking at things. Although obviously there are several other factors to consider as well.
