With our current commits, if we land
1. RB - A Collins
2. TE B Sandland
3. DT B. Bradley
4. LB M. Thomas
We compete for NC next season.
Add #s 1 & 2 and we have most potent offense in nation. We’ll put up 45 points a game.
With #s 3 & 4, along with Bond, we finally pressure the QB and allow our outstanding DBs to function so we get off the field after 3 downs 40% - 60% more often.
NOTE: I’m not discounting D Kirkland; S. Coley; J. Grace; T. Williams; R. Robinson & Keith Bryant. They would just guarantee the repeat NC in 2014!

Hold those horses... as much of a homer I am I wouldn't get that far ahead. Still a lot of wotrk to be done defensively

Still quite young on defense. Consistency will be critical. Need playmakers to develop.

So you think its realistic to go from having one of the worst defenses in the country to MNC contention in one year?

Everyone complained about our d2 personel on the dl this year. I dnt see how its goin 2 look much different nxt year. Then we need to get a LOT deeper everywhere. Were pretty much 1 injury away at every position to push the panic button. Heck, look at our lb core if Eddie Johnson isnt here nxt yr. it aint pretty.

Im going to guess we play fsu in the acccg if no further post season sanctions are handed down, so not counting bowl game:

worst case: 8-5 loss to UF, 0-2 vs FSU, and 2 games we "shouldn't" have lost
best case: 11-2 loss to UF, 1-1 vs FSU
if i were putting money on it: 10-3 loss to UF, 1-1 vs FSU, 1 game we "shouldn't" have lost.

improvement over last years 7-5, and looking good for a 12 win BCS bound season in '14 with a RSFrosh Olsen at the helm, and a for real NC run in '15.

this of course not seeing the acc sched yet, not sure which way i would go if we play clemson in 13

westcoastcanes barring unforeseen injuries at key positions five losses next season would be a disaster - absolutely no question about that. Think about it - this year if we have Vernon, Streeter, Lamar Miller, Forston, and Washington do we lose to UVA and UNC? I say no, which means we might have been a 9 or perhaps even, on the high end, an 11 win team this season. In fact, I believe if Eddie had played at UVA there's a good chance we win that game even without our early entrants. I think four losses would be a disappointment and five would be a disaster. On the conservative side, I agree with you that three losses next season would be more in line with our current talent, etc., but there is little reason that "I am aware of" that we can't be in the title "hunt."

We are all fretting over our DL recruiting this year, but the real issue for next season is whether Porter stays and is healthy. If that's the case, then next season we will actually have experience, size, and depth along the DL. If Jacoby can come back from his injury and spends his time wisely in the weight room even our DT position should get more depth. Bond should provide a much needed pass rush off the edge opposite McCord who we all expect to put on maybe 10-15 pounds of good weight and who is likewise explosive. I expect the coaches to also us Gabe Terry to bring pressure in obvious passing situations as we have already seen. Therefore, I believe our defense, with a healthy Porter in the line up from day one, would be a much improved defense over this past season. I am assuming our young defensive linemen all improve technique, get stronger, etc. - something that under the previous staffs was not a safe assumption. I think that is very reasonable here.

(Bond, Porter, Pierre, Chick; Perryman, Kirby, Johnson; Howard, Bush, Jenkins, Gunter with interchangeable players with little drop off in talent or experience)

I am aware LuCane has pointed out some deficiencies in our offensive scheme that I believe he said would need to be modified to compete at the highest level. If we can make those adjustments (assuming we have the types of players necessary) then that takes us another step closer to title contention.

We are returning our entire staff for the third consecutive year.

I don't know what ND will be next year or FSU or UF for the that matter, but those are the only programs that based solely on their assumed top tier talent that should have a real serious chance at beating us next season, unless we implode.

I think we're a lot closer than some imagine.

We have no issues on offense except having a #1 wr and Coley could fill that. The list only had 2 off and 2 def when it should be 4 def. We are close to dead last in D, so we need to get that to Top 25 defense before we can have a shot at a ship.

You mean except running the ball for tough yards?

You guys are delusional if you think we compete for a championship next year.

I hope I eat my words, but no chance.

How about focusing on just getting better, and try to win the ACC first. Then the potential NC talk

that's what i mean by worst case. we are not going to have a top 25 defense next year, even with no injuries, realistically speaking we should be happy to scratch the top 65 nationally as it would mark a significant improvement. if we lose just a couple key offensive performers we are losing several games we otherwise wouldn't have.

Fix the DL and we have a chance to be really good next year if Porter and Henderson stay. That said, I don't think we have DL horses coming back nor the recruits in the pipeline to get us over the hump that fast.

Hope I am wrong but it's hard to drink the koolaid after watching a defense give up 500+ yards a game consistently. We had alot of holes on the defensive side of the ball.
