Wade Phillips as UM's Defensive Consultant?

I understand the idea. But if Golden, a perceived defensive mind, needs to hire a defensive consultant to fix the defense in his fourth year on the job, he needs to be gone.

College coaches reach out and ask for advice or go watch practices more often than you might think with other head coaches/coordinators in college and the NFL.

This is a HUGE pioe dream. Wade Philips could literally be kicking down Golden's door and asking for job and saying he'll work for free. Golden would still say no and say he has the best staff to win a championship lol

If Golden knew his 3-4 system well enough to come in and implement for a head coach as an assistant, why do you believe he is willing to give another, outside coach a chance to come in an critique and refine his system? If Golden is expert enough on this scheme to install it as an asst., then I doubt he would be willing to have it tinkered with.

Well his scheme is getting its *** kicked multiple times a year so something has to change, last year UM literally had one the worst defenses in the country for the 2nd year in a row.

Al Groh had a long history of being involved with various defenses, including the 3-4 before he ever set eyes on Al Golden. I don't think Golden taught Al Groh anything about the 3-4. This line from that bio
