Video re-watch - terrible calls by the refs - huge impact

Yeah, but some of our soft-shouldered fans would rather blame Jacolby George and his hair-trigger temper for that one...

There's a whole thread about it...
Man, I figured it was just normal in game stress making me think they were getting away with some ****. But Jesus, after Cam’s first pick they were taunting half our sideline and the ref just told them to to go the other side, but Jacolby spins the ball in the end zone (not even at someone) and catches a fifteen yarder. Mesidor and Barrow both got ******* bear hugged to the ground on the 55 yard run. The flag on Bell literally didn’t come out until Cam was 20 yards away and the pass was coming out, a solid 5 seconds after their edge hit the ground. I’m only 25 minutes in but god****.

And I know it’s not breaking news. But we miss Rivers so bad. The few times where Bell gets beat with speed or just not having the strength to combat the low man leverage jump out at first glance, but the main thing is he just gives us nothing in the run game, especially when he gets to the second level.

Bell is still raw, he was at a JuCo, I have no doubts they will coach him up. But, yes, I'd rather have Rivers.

The taunting was out of control. I mentioned it in the very first post on this thread, but some posters have been poo-poo'ing it. Maybe some people were not bothered while watching it live, but it becomes SOOOO obvious on the re-watch. And the refs are right there, and they did NOTHING for the entirety of the game.

But the ball-spin, tho...

Also, not related to the officials but if Dylan Day gets even a glancing blow of a block Johnson takes that kick to the house before the half. Jesus.

Again, the refs literally let a VT player camp 4 yards in the offensive backfield and taunt us in our huddle 25 seconds into the play clock… which resulted in a shoving match that Cam broke up… and still no flag.

I went back and watched and the TV coverage only showed the end… it was even more egregious than what was shown.

Nutty.

Andre Ware was god**** insufferable in this game. On top of people just not liking Miami, him being completely wrong about half the calls I’m sure shaped how people thought this one was officiated.

I want a transcript of the game. Because Ware was out of control.

At various times in the game...

Anish and Andre told us that Cam Ward's fumble was ruled an incompletion. They told us that a hold never actually happened (because the OL protested it). And on the last play, they told us it was ruled incomplete when it was ruled a touchdown.

Not to mention the fact that Ware got the guy who "caught" the Hail Mary wrong. He didn't even know Felton "caught" the pass, he thought another guy caught the pass.

We won the game. I shouldn't really care. But the bull**** coming from VaTech fans and "Miami fan" VaTech apologists is just nuts.

Why should we feel bad about BEING RIGHT? About being right on nearly every single reviewed call and penalty call in the entire game. Like when Jacolby George picked up a first down and they ruled it a full yard short? Why should we have to apologize for wanting accurate calls from the refs?

How do you get an unsportsmanlike penalty for spinning a ball? I thought for sure Mario had the wrong dude.

Cannot spin the ball like that, if you want to win. You have to know (as a player for the Canes) that the refs are going to hold you to a much higher standard. I thought it was harsh because he didn't appear to spin it at a DBs feet or actively taunt the opponent but you have to know going forward that they will call Miami players for anything vaguely borderline...so just don't do it!! It sucks but assume you're playing in the No Fun League and act accordingly if you want to win.

I could’ve sworn they showed Cam’s knee down before he lost control of the ball on the first turnover.

It was close. There was weird leverage, where he was trying to push with his foot to stay up. His knee and/or his shin may have been down, but ESPN was TERRIBLE about showing replays, particularly the ones from the best angles. I've never seen more WORTHLESS camera angles that showed nothing helpful. It was sad to see that from the "worldwide leader".

Watch these plays again. It's truly indefensible.

1. Third and goal, Miami about to go up 21-7. Markel Bell is matched up against Keyshawn Burgos. Bell has at least 4 inches and 100 pounds on Burgos. There is NO HOLDING. Burgos spins his body until his BACK is against Bell, then he falls down. The ref waits forever to throw the flag, until Cam throws the ball. The replay is clear. Even the announcer questions the call. But the phantom holding stands, taking a touchdown off the board, and the very next play is an interception.
If this play is called correctly and Miami goes up 21-7 in this spot, this is a totally different game. VT offensive play calling would have changed to a more pass heavy approach taking the running game out off the equation (the running game is what killed Miami in the 1st half). I truly believe Miami would have blow them out had this play been called correctly.

Their LT and C both held on that long TD run. Both had handfuls of jersey on the outside of the shoulder pads, one of them literally pulled our DL to the ground. They were doing that most of the game. I'm glad it got called when it did.
the problems with rules, they are not strictly enforced, that's when they are called it's wtf, it hasn't been called all game.

Low man wins, Bell first experience playing ACC competition. They was another holding call on Horton on a first down, when you see the replay, Horton just ran by the guy and their arms just glance off each other. Ref's were a **** show.

Yeah that was my point. Wasn’t trying to **** on him or anything, he clearly just still needs some time in the weight room and more coaching to be able to handle guys that have natural leverage on him because of his height. He got walked back into the pocket a few times and was too upright.

The unsprotsmanlike crap has to stop, and I'm talking about the refs.

I said in the gameday thread, college football STILL has a bias against Miami because of the 80's.

Teams have full reign to taunt Miami and it is almost never called. We spin the ball after a TD? and it's called? Is that called every time? NO.

I would never ever change the 80's for anything, but we are paying for that to some extent.

Basically we have to be literal saints in every way. I would even tell them to stop celebrating the TD's. Just in case the refs decide, oh I'll call it now. It's sad, but we have to deal with it.

Mario seemed upset at someone after that George penalty, maybe he has told them.
This is 100% correct....Let's not forget Shaq getting flagged for doing push-ups after dropping a pick. That is what it means when you don the U.

Or the countless block in the backs they didn’t call?

Here’s 2 examples.

Yeah, I find myself yelling "show the f-k-g replays you morons" during these ESPN games. So much worthless chatter and not enough replays from various angles.

I live and work in the DC area. Surrounded by Hokies everywhere and I have to say the ones I know personally are good people. But as far as football is concerned, they can be an insufferable lot. For some reason they have made us their rivals over the years and they especially hate that we've won national championships. They love throwing the "We're back Baybee" at us and they somehow think that just because we won titles that they are due as well. They simultaneously suffer from inferiority and superiority complexes. So, yeah, I try not to discuss too much football with them. :)
