Video re-watch - terrible calls by the refs - huge impact

And before we get more VaTech apologists in here to whine and cry about the phantom horse collar tackle near the end of the game, let's go to the video, shall we?

First, Tyler Baron is to the SIDE of Drones, and is NOT behind him. Baron reaches out to his right with one hand.

Then, you can see Drones try to dip his right shoulder, to avoid Baron grabbing his right shoulder from his side position.

Next, you can see Drones try to power away from Baron's grasp of his right shoulder, as Baron is forcefully rotated from a sideways position to one where he is being pulled to follow Drones.

Finally, you can see the residual impact of the pull FROM THE SIDE as Drones is pulled down and to the right. DOWN AND TO THE RIGHT, almost like a Seinfeld re-enactment of the Roger McDowell spitting incident.

And do I need to state the obvious? After this phantom horse collar tackle, Drones' collar is PERFECTLY FINE, there is no indication that the back of his jersey has been pulled backwards, his jersey is just perfectly in place and was not displaced due to the force of the tackle, which he almost eluded.

Look, I give all credit to Drones for breaking free from Baron's grasp, but the shoulder grab caused Drones to lose his momentum and balance and FALL DOWN AND TO THE RIGHT.

Clearly NOT a horse collar tackle.

**** off, VaTech!

Watch these plays again. It's truly indefensible.

1. Third and goal, Miami about to go up 21-7. Markel Bell is matched up against Keyshawn Burgos. Bell has at least 4 inches and 100 pounds on Burgos. There is NO HOLDING. Burgos spins his body until his BACK is against Bell, then he falls down. The ref waits forever to throw the flag, until Cam throws the ball. The replay is clear. Even the announcer questions the call. But the phantom holding stands, taking a touchdown off the board, and the very next play is an interception.

2. Fourth down, VaTech about to go up 24-14. The kicker wears jersey #17. But wait, VaTech only has 10 men on the field. So who runs onto the field but....#17 Cole Nelson. It's so ******* obvious, it's not like they have two #17s buried in the interior of the line. It's...the KICKER...and the GUY RUNNING ONTO THE FIELD LATE. In fact, it is so obvious, that you can see the ambiguously-gendered assistant coach behind Pry's left shoulder (the one wearing the purple shirt and the large necklace) yelling "there's two #17s" to Pry. But the refs don't call a penalty, and the first #17 makes the long field goal.

3. Ongoing game long ignoring of unsportsmanlike conduct. The refs IMMEDIATELY gave Jacolby George a penalty for spinning the ball in the end zone, then ignored FOR FOUR QUARTERS the VaTech players taunting Miami players, particularly with the Cam Ward celebration. Not one unsportsmanlike call on VaTech. NOT ONE. But Jacolby George spinning the ball was flagged.

But, yeah, sure, the refs were on Miami's side because of one call...ridiculous....

I can't rewatch this game cause of the things u pointed out. Bell got screwed on that holding call which F'd us. Thats why everybody was shocked we got that call at the end cause these refs are g0d awful

Has the PI on VT’s third drive where Alston clearly tipped it at the line been brought up? That one is even reviewable, correct?

It was hard to tell on that one. Drones does not throw the tightest spiral, and they only showed ONE replay. At the time, I was with @AtlAtty and he made the same comment about the tip. If Alston felt he tipped the ball, I'm not sure why he didn't make a bigger deal about that.

To be honest, I'm not sure whether college rules allow you to protest on a tip. I also questioned whether there might have been a tip on the OJ Frederique PI call at the end of the third quarter.

Having said that, the one early in the game was only a 4 yard penalty (though a first down). The ref who threw the flag was behind the WR. The ref who "should have" called a tip was the line judge, and we all know how involved the line judge got on the downfield OJ Frederique PI call...

I was having all kinds of internet issues Friday so wasn’t going to try to rewind it at the time. Looked like a tip, and running it back now Alston’s fingers pretty clearly got it. Like you said, not sure why they didn’t make a bigger deal and not a massive play or anything more just me wondering why we didn’t make a fuss of it. I’m about 99% sure that’s a reviewable play at the college level.

And, of course, this was COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from the REAL holding penalty on the VaTech center near the end of the third quarter.

In that situation, Moten was pushing him backwards into the running back's lane, and the VaTech center grabbed Moten's left sleeve and held on.

The TD call should NEVER have been made in the first place. Abomination
That's the bigger issue. Whatever foolishness made that dude call it a TD in the first place. Call on field should've been incomplete and then review it from there. Somehow it always ends up a horrible call on field than an inability to overturn it due to replay. I'm just glad they eventually got it right

It was an acc game, so a list of missed/blown/wtf calls is to be expected. I agree the officiating hurt us more than VT.

BUT… and I don’t know if this was shown on TV…

The most absurd, insane, outrageous episode of WTF officiating I’ve ever seen happened 1 or two plays before we kicked a field goal to end the first half.

A VT DL was 5 yards past the LOS on our side of the ball talking **** in the face of one of our OL who was IN THE HUDDLE.

Literally a VT player was crashing our huddle and **** talking (which turned into pushing) our players in the huddle. And the refs did nothing.

Mario appropriately went ape**** - but it was fing unreal to watch a defensive player disrupt the offensive huddle to the point there were hands and the refs did nothing.

Also the back judge calling the Hail Mary a touchdown when he couldn’t see ****. That was bad too.

I was losing my mind when that happened. It was shown on tv. Not only that, it caused us to call our last timeout and took any chance of another play to get a few yards off the table. There’s a zero percent chance we don’t catch a fifteen yard penalty if we’re the ones doing that.

I literally couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was questioning my eyes until I saw Mario lose his **** on everyone within earshot who was wearing stripes.

Yeah, but some of our soft-shouldered fans would rather blame Jacolby George and his hair-trigger temper for that one...

There's a whole thread about it...
