Video re-watch - terrible calls by the refs - huge impact

I mean a long rushing TD was called back by them as well. ACC refs are garbage, we’ve known this. Dont let the game get in their hands. 3 turnovers and our defense playing like **** didn’t help. Should’ve been a blowout if Cam didn’t have 3 turnovers and there wouldn’t have been a “controversial” call at the end.
Their LT and C both held on that long TD run. Both had handfuls of jersey on the outside of the shoulder pads, one of them literally pulled our DL to the ground. They were doing that most of the game. I'm glad it got called when it did.

Watch these plays again. It's truly indefensible.

1. Third and goal, Miami about to go up 21-7. Markel Bell is matched up against Keyshawn Burgos. Bell has at least 4 inches and 100 pounds on Burgos. There is NO HOLDING. Burgos spins his body until his BACK is against Bell, then he falls down. The ref waits forever to throw the flag, until Cam throws the ball. The replay is clear. Even the announcer questions the call. But the phantom holding stands, taking a touchdown off the board, and the very next play is an interception.

2. Fourth down, VaTech about to go up 24-14. The kicker wears jersey #17. But wait, VaTech only has 10 men on the field. So who runs onto the field but....#17 Cole Nelson. It's so ******* obvious, it's not like they have two #17s buried in the interior of the line. It's...the KICKER...and the GUY RUNNING ONTO THE FIELD LATE. In fact, it is so obvious, that you can see the ambiguously-gendered assistant coach behind Pry's left shoulder (the one wearing the purple shirt and the large necklace) yelling "there's two #17s" to Pry. But the refs don't call a penalty, and the first #17 makes the long field goal.

3. Ongoing game long ignoring of unsportsmanlike conduct. The refs IMMEDIATELY gave Jacolby George a penalty for spinning the ball in the end zone, then ignored FOR FOUR QUARTERS the VaTech players taunting Miami players, particularly with the Cam Ward celebration. Not one unsportsmanlike call on VaTech. NOT ONE. But Jacolby George spinning the ball was flagged.

But, yeah, sure, the refs were on Miami's side because of one call...ridiculous....
post of the day💯💯

that TD that they took away from Ward to go up 21-7 was CRIMINAL. Miami was about to break them psychologically and then boom a 14 point swing in a five minute span.

OK guys, you know how crazy I am about "getting it right", and while I hate our opponents, I am ALWAYS fair on the analysis.

Sooooo...remember that "phantom holding call" at the end of the 3rd quarter that cost VaTech a touchdown? You remember, the one that scumbag Andre Ware INSISTED was just a good block? That he wanted to see the replay of, to determine whether the holding actually impacted the play?

Yeah, well the video says otherwise. All apologies, because the ONE replay that ESPN showed starts AFTER the play has begun, so you BARELY catch a glimpse of what the ref called.

But...here it is. Plain as the nose on your face. The offensive lineman's right hand is firmly grasping the left sleeve of our defensive lineman.

I'm starting to warm up to these adidas sleeve stripes...

Holding.

Eat a ****, VaTech.

That and blocks in the back were happening all game. Makes sense why VT and ware would think it's phantom lol

the worst example of vt taunting and getting away with it, was after the first pick, they get tackled into the Miami bench, get up and 4 of them are doing the Ward celebration at our bench, the ref pushes them back but they kept doing it. If that's not called, nothing will be against our opponents.

I rewatched it and they didn’t give any number

Yes they did. Right here. The ref announced it was the first unsportsmanlike for #3.

Also, if you go back and watch the live play, Xavier comes in and picks up the ball to hand it to the ref, as if the ref has already thrown the flag or is reaching for it.

And for the record, it was VaTech #25 (Beamer's precious jersey number) who held Xavier on the play, the penalty that we declined prior to the announcement of the unsportsmanlike. Again, if you go back to the live play, you can see the flag sitting at the 10 yard line around the left hash mark.

Exactly.

Hopefully, Mario is reading the boards and someone from Miami will actually contact the ACC office.

Not saying that anything will actually be done, but this **** is getting out of hand. I realize why the AAC refs didn't call that **** in the USF game, but this ACC crap is getting out of hand.

I’m going to do a rewatch tonight but I remember thinking Popo got held worse than any of the dlinemen on that play

That may be the case. But we only got one partial replay, and AT LEAST we can see that the penalty that WAS called was NOT a phantom holding call.

So, again, **** OFF VATECH. You lost a touchdown on a LEGIT penalty, not like what happened to us as we were about to go up 21-7.

Yeah, Moten tried to shoot that gap and he got held but as the play developed he tried to shoot the other gap and failed which made it look like a good block. In the future, Moten has to fight through that initial gap to emphasize the hold. luckily it was called but it could have been easily missed.

Sure looked like their TE was constantly jumping to get to the second level on those toss sweeps. I counted at least 3x.

Also the hold on Horton towards the end of the game seemed weak to me. Yeah he had him gripped up but the DB never did anything to free himself from the block, and Horton released and it didn’t have an effect on the play IMO.

my only disagreement is on the cam ward celebration, you can't dish it out and then get upset when it comes back your way ... everything else tho is absolutely correct ... i'm not a let's blame the refs guy ... but they head a rough night ... and you left out the most egregious, calling that last play a catch

I don't understand what you are trying to say here.

First, there was no "shooting the gap". Moten was lined up directly against the center. He fires out with a hand on each shoulder of the center, and begins to push him backwards. The center rotates a bit, as if to allow Moten to the "inside" (as the play is going outside), but he is clearly holding Moten (see the pictures).

Then, as Moten sees the play going towards the outside, he attempts to move in that direction laterally. Moten tries to reach out his right hand to grab the running back as he moves to his right. This is the point at which the center STOPS holding Moten and just uses Moten's lateral movement to throw him to the ground.

I realize that the second half of the block makes it seem like Kaden Moore made some sort of great block, but it's bull****. Moore held Moten FIRST, and then when Moten tried to flow to the running back to make the tackle, Moore just used Moten's momentum to throw Moten down.

To quote Andre Ware, "WOW, let's see if it was even a factor." Yes, Andre, it WAS a factor, and just because you couldn't see it or acknowledge it does not mean it didn't happen. As the pictures clearly show.

If not for the hold, Moten has an unimpeded path to the running back.

What in the **** are you talking about with "dishing it out"?

Cam celebrates to the fans in the stands. He celebrates with his own players. And usually after a touchdown, for which there is a slightly wider leeway for celebration (but NOT for taunting, which should be penalized in all cases), except apparently when you spin a ball.

That is a fundamentally different situation from players TAUNTING other players and coaches in non-scoring situations.

My season tickets are on the "away" side. If the opposing team wants to celebrate on THEIR sideline, I have never taken that personally. I've seen a million "throwing the U down" signs, and I've never complained once.

But doing that **** on the field, in players faces, should be penalized for the taunting that it is. These worthless refs need to keep the game under control, otherwise we will have the BULL**** that happened between the 3rd and 4th quarters.

The refs were terrible, and the only reason I didn't mention the last play of the game initially is because I UNDERSTOOD THEIR CONFUSION. I am a bit LESS critical of that, though I think they should have huddled before making the call. The last play was chaotic.

The two holding calls were not chaotic. The pass interference call was not chaotic. The 11th man running onto the field goal formation wearing the exact same jersey number as the kicker was a lot less chaotic than the final play.

The refs needed to exert control over the game and stop all the unsportsmanlike crap that was happening. And NO, it's not a case of "if you dish it out, you can't get upset". That kind of rationale is for elementary school, not a professionally refereed and nationally televised major college football game.
