This is the only real thing to discuss, in my opinion. Beck is obviously a lot better than anything we'd have done, at the time we did it. And there will never be an actual answer to this question because there are so many variables, but just an example is Beck at his "salary" better than Mendoza at his, and then could we add other players using the delta? We'll never really know.

Other than that, health permitting, Beck is a home run compared to what we were staring down the barrel of.

I don't care if he's not as good as Cam...we know he's not. That's fine. I'm 100.0% convinced a QB of his talent and ability can win this league, if he has help. Cam Ward couldn't win it with the other 84 guys he had around him. So Beck sure as **** won't, unless those 84 guys are better in 2025 than they were in 2024.

The QB, in a vacuum, is good enough to win the ACC, full stop. Can we put receivers around him who can catch, and can we field a defense that looks like it's actually practiced? The OL, backs, and TEs are easily good enough to win the league with this kid behind center. WRs and the defense holds up their end of the bargain, we're winning the league.

Here's another way to say it.....in 2024, it was clear the defense cost us a shot at the league, and the playoffs. I am confident when we're sitting here a year from now, we will NOT be saying Carson Beck cost us a shot at the league, and the playoffs. Assuming health, of course.

I think considering what we pay for a player at this point in time is a mistake. That matters in the nfl because there is a salary cap. Now we can always just turn to the money people and ask for more. I know money is finite but even with what we paid for beck, for example, if Jeremiah smith had people reach out to Miami and say if you can give me 2.5 million I’d like to come home- don’t we all believe we would find the money?

When will we stop putting ourself in the staring down the barrel position?

Year 4 -- that is poor planning at best, but more like negligence.

There was lots of qb’s early on. Off the top of my head.

Arnold
Mensah
Mendoza
Moss

We put all the eggs in Mateer. Then at one point we were interacting with guys that were bums. So yes everything worked out in the end but we had to pay an exorbitant amount for a qb that just got his throwing elbow cut on. All of that is pretty risky. Luckily that’s the best we could’ve done waiting this long into the process.

Injury aside this is why I think Beck will be fine here.

The big miss was Mendoza. It made too much sense. Question is would we have been able to attract talent with Mendoza as the QB though.

I've watched every game he's played over the last 2 seasons as a starter, that's where my opinion is coming from. That's how I come to my conclusions. I don't spout off random thoughts based on nothing. I actually watch & can tell you why & how I get from point A to point B.

You guys remember when I was the only person on the board who posted on Cam Ward when he was at Incarnate Word? How do you think I found out about him? You think I just plucked a random name out of a hat & decided I liked his ability for no reason at all?

You watched every game? Man you must really hate Georgia enough to hate watch that many games. Even I miss plenty of fspoo games

I think he will be good but im not sold on the talent we currently have surrounding him. Need a couple more pieces at wr..and id go for a rb

He is the typical college qb, he will only be as good as what’s around him

IDK but this isn't how I live life. I can't go back and change the past. I can learn from it, but I don't dwell on it. All I can impact now is what happens from this minute into the future. So when will we stop putting ourselves in this position? I hope immediately. If Beck's elbow is OK, we should be good for 2025. You recruited, IMO, one of the 5 best QBs in the country this year. He should be your guy in 2026 and 2027. You need to add around him in case he busts or gets injured, but IMO you're set up well for the next few years. And, you can always go into the portal again, as we've seen the past 2 seasons.

I'm not sold on Coleman, I think we need to continue recruiting the position heavily and always be monitoring the portal. But Nickel is the highest ranked HS QB we've signed since, when? Kaaya? He's gotta be the dude.

Our strategy for portal qbs is the only issue. We put our eggs in home run baskets or unrealistic baskets. We got bailed out with cam. We think we got bailed out with beck. Time will tell. At his best he’s very good. At his worst he’s north Florida TVD

I need to see upgrades on the offensive side before I feel good about next year. We need 3-4 more guys on O and a few on D. Currently the offense is far from good enough.
 
Beck is a top 10 QB in college next year. He is not Cam but no one is. The fact that is is the most battle tested Qb helps too. As long as he is healthy I expect a big year from him.

He just had surgery on his THROWING elbow. Will not be able to throw for a couple more months and will likely miss spring. He might be fine for the season....but he might not. That elbow could still bother him. Pretty concerning for me. Hopefully it isn't an issue.

I'm just not accepting all the excuses being made for why his play declined & then accepting the logical leap that it's going to suddenly increase now that he's in Miami.

If the reason for Beck's decline this season was due to the fault of his lack of RB's, OL & WR's, THEN simultaneously saying he needs to be surrounded by elite talent in order to play at his best, while also projecting him to lead us to an ACC title & possibly the playoffs, are all contradictory statements.

First, I think their QB strategy is absolutely terrible. One year rentals acquired in January is probably the most destructive recruiting situation you can find yourselves in, for both high school and the portal. And the downside risk for not hitting on these guys is catastrophic.

Second, I agree with you that Beck is going to be a product of the talent and success around him and not someone who is the one driving the success. I think if you put Beck on this 2024 Miami team we're 8-4ish. He would have been asked to do way too much due to the defense. I also think if you putt 99% of the QBs in college on this 2024 team 8-4 is their ceiling.

But I think the 2025 offense is going to be better for him than the 2024 Georgia offense. And I think the schedule is going to be infinitely easier than his 2024 Georgia schedule. If Miami needs to win 10/11 games or win the ACCCG to get into the playoff I would say Beck is good enough to do that IF the defense actually improves and we can land a very good receiver in the spring portal window.

Given where we were a week ago with the QB situation that's night and day difference. If people are excited about that they have every right to be. And talking about a playoff run is within the realm of possibility, where 1 week ago that was an impossibility.

No need to worry, the CIS doctors have already assured us Beck will make a full recovery, and as a matter of fact, his arm will be stronger, his passes will be more accurate and he will commit no turnovers. Think along the lines of the Bionic Man. #seventeenandoh.

Well for me personally all the backlash just seems hypocritical. We give Cam all the benefits of the doubt when he went 5-7 in a pretty terrible defensive conference. Some real stinker games in that season. So, if he elevated his game by playing here with improved ol, rb, etc, then why isn't that the reason for the drop in Beck's qbr and overall play when UGA lost all those studs after 23? That is the only thing confusing to me in all this.
