I expect him to stay at Duke per source.

Jai took the job he had planned on bringing Shelton Henderson with him from Duke. I think that’s all over now. A source I’m very close with reached out to one of his guys and he said he’s staying Duke.

If Lucas could’ve got Henderson, sheesh

Not gonna over react because it's a little different in my mind when they're already signed but going forward if Jai isn't signing 2-3 top 40 or 50 players per class it isn't going to work. Guess he still can with Able and Allen on the board.

Part of me thinks he was hired partially for the idea that he would bring in the Boozers and/or Henderson and the turnaround would be immediate and at a high-level.

Agree on the first point but would be ridiculous and frankly, shortsighted to believe that our admin actually thought he was bringing those guys with him.

Pure delusion if you thought that
He didn't make the nonchalant comment in his presser regarding the Boozers and keeping the best talent home for no reason. That was always in the back of everyone's mind, including those making the decisions and the ones that felt they were close to landing them originally and funding the whole thing. Throw Moran's name into the conversation as an assistant... they painted their own picture and drew up their own expectations.

Its no different than the expectations that follow HS football coaches getting hired as college assistants and everyone, including the HC hiring them, expecting to get kids from that school. It's 75% of the reason they get the jobs that they get.

Duke is in the Final Four, and even though Flagg is assuredly jumping, I think Maluach and Kneuppel stay. They literally lose Flagg, Sion James, Gillis, and maybe Proctor if he jumps (unless there's an unexpected portal entry out of the young crew).

The only reason any of Henderson or the Boozer Twins would leave is if they think someone else is gonna eventually beat them out. Otherwise, you find yourself on a young and talented roster with opportunities to win the ACC multiple times and make deep runs in the tourney.

The carrot we dangled out there for Henderson and/or the Boozer's to come to Miami was to be stars here and for more PT and to be the focus from day one forward, albeit as the centerpiece of a rebuild. It wasn't enough. And you can't make these kids' minds up for themselves, especially after all of them had already committed to Duke, and their trajectory keeps going up while we're starting on a rebuild.

I'm sure Jai asked the question and sold those kids as hard as he could on helping him rebuild things here. That's something. It wouldn't have happened if we still had Coach L. We wouldn't have been in a position to even ask the question if Henderson/Boozer x2 wanted to jump ship and come here.

Kneuppel and Maluach are potential lottery picks, I don’t know that them staying is a good assumption.

Something about being close only mattering in horseshoes and hand grenades applies here.

Possibly. I could be wrong, but I think Maluach needs more seasoning, and for some reason I just have a gut feeling Kneuppel will stay at least 1 more year. Definitely not a 100% lock they return either.

But if you never throw the horseshoe or hand grenade (or even think to) then you're never going to get close. Can't fault the dude for at least trying when Coach L and staff wouldn't have been able to.
What? Didn't we finish 2nd to Duke the first time for the Boozers and Lucas was pointed to as the reason we lost out? So if I actually believe that he is the elite recruiter he's being sold as, he cost Miami the first time around and then couldn't make good when he got another shot.

If all things were equal, I'd agree. Look at what Jai had to sell while he was at Duke. He sold it, the Boozers bought it. He sold what he has to sell here, they wouldn't buy it. It's not apples to apples. Especially when they already said no to us once under L, and the situation is worse at Miami now than when they said no before.

What I'm saying is, if L was still the coach, the question of a flip wouldn't have even been realistic to ask of the Boozers OR Henderson. We wouldn't have even been a viable option if L was still here. With Jai, they at least had to answer the phone and entertain the idea.
