Update on Shelton Henderson

This is what happens when certain entities try to oversell a coach in order to defuse criticism from others that he may not be the best option for a job he has 0 experience for. You can name call all you want to people who disagree with you but anyone who thinks lucas will recruit rosters here like he could at duke or texas or any other blud blood is in for a rude awakening. Speaking of texas, weird they hired a proven head coach this cycle instead of taking the best assistant coach in the sport with all these great contacts and pedigree. Same with NC state. Weird.

Duke is in the Final Four, and even though Flagg is assuredly jumping, I think Maluach and Kneuppel stay. They literally lose Flagg, Sion James, Gillis, and maybe Proctor if he jumps (unless there's an unexpected portal entry out of the young crew).

The only reason any of Henderson or the Boozer Twins would leave is if they think someone else is gonna eventually beat them out. Otherwise, you find yourself on a young and talented roster with opportunities to win the ACC multiple times and make deep runs in the tourney.

The carrot we dangled out there for Henderson and/or the Boozer's to come to Miami was to be stars here and for more PT and to be the focus from day one forward, albeit as the centerpiece of a rebuild. It wasn't enough. And you can't make these kids' minds up for themselves, especially after all of them had already committed to Duke, and their trajectory keeps going up while we're starting on a rebuild.

I'm sure Jai asked the question and sold those kids as hard as he could on helping him rebuild things here. That's something. It wouldn't have happened if we still had Coach L. We wouldn't have been in a position to even ask the question if Henderson/Boozer x2 wanted to jump ship and come here.
Maluach and Kneuppel Both is top players in the draft

OK - that's your take. If I'm wrong, and there's a better than zero chance they do come back, I'll own it.

I think if Duke does indeed win the title, then it's a no-brainer that they go to the league and I'd question their logic if they didn't.

Players don’t flip often in college basketball, so Coach L flipping them would be unheard of…

It’s a new hire that people have opinions on… so people will discuss both sides of it… and on CIS there will be bellyaching and *****ing about it …. Some of that comes from Miami’s inept hiring process history…

We Miami fans have been given 3 gifts: one from Richt, Gino and L…

We got Manny, JD and a coach that’s never been a head coach. No home runs. None! We then canned Manny and had 1 other choice… the history repeats itself and it sucks.

This is not disliking Manny or Mario or JD or Lucas… it is about not having a serious athletic department.

Now with Lucas, if Louisville can spin their program around quickly, so can we. Let’s give the dude a chance, BUT we also have to stop the oversell and excuses we see and have had with other coaching changes .. JD didn’t have enough time … Mario could walk on water…. Because it sets the board and coach up for mockery and rightfully so…
I don't disagree with much of what you're saying re: the athletic dept. My posts on here bear that out, especially in regards to JD and the baseball program.

The bolded/underlined part above, I'm entirely on board with. ******* lockstep. I'm not overselling Jai, but I'm also not going to sit here and defecate all over him either. Either thing is useless because he's got the job. Call out the AD for a lazy/overly speculative hire, sure. I can see that.

**All I'm saying** is that in this instance with the Boozer's and Henderson, Jai had us in position where they would have to answer the phone for a possible flip. If L was still here, we'd have been taking a flier on some kid last second after some of these transfers, and he'd have done an interview tacitly bytching about NIL and telling us all to get off his lawn. For all that's good about L, he quickly became a dinosaur and the landscape of the game re: recruiting passed him by in a damaging way.

I think it’s too early to say an assistant who has coached at three of the easiest sell programs in the country is anything. I’m not even trying to knock him, we just literally have no idea
I absolutely agree with this. My only claim was that in *this* instance with *these* specific kids, Lucas at least had the door cracked open for an improbable flip where L wouldn't have. That's not crowning Jai, that's just my observation.

Message boards (especially here) are a place where people tend to take 1 statement/observation meant for one moment in time, and then run with it as a staunch blanket declaration. The latter definitely wasn't what was meant by me.

I gotcha. I just re-read what you said and I definitely conflated your comment about hoping that Lucas’ inroads lead to us landing more big time talent being related to the piece about incremental progress. That’s my bad.

Thanks for acknowledging, respected and much appreciated.

Spot on, especially your point on the 3 gifts given to this program.
But I would also add the gift of wisdom given to this athletic department by the late Sam Jankovich, who was a staunch believer in never hiring assistants to run a program.
This goes back 40plus years, yet this school seems to repeat the same mistakes in spite of our
home-grown Lessons Learned.
Insanity.

They got both players in the top 15 of the draft… and Duke don’t let players come back if they for sure top 15

I’ll repeat what I said the day he was rumored to be hired. Not a single person “he recruited” to Duke would’ve come to Miami had he been the head coach here.
