*Update Eddie Nunez Emerges as Strong Candidate for Miami AD Job

They probably had to search high and low for an AD that would be ok not touching football. Appeasing whoever it was pushing Zo over football is what likely cut the applicant pool down the most.

I would also point out something that I mentioned to another person via DM.

Pre-Covid, you could fly in a candidate or two and do an all-day panel interview. I am curious as to the logistics of a Covid-era/travel-restrictions/working with Turnkey and a BOT Civil War might be doing to the process. I could imagine that interviews have been "split up" from what they normally are, with some of the preliminaries being done over Zoom/Teams and/or by Turnkey instead of UM personnel.

If so, it might be harder to address all of the issues at once, the ones you can normally hash out during an all-day interview. Again, JUST A SET OF QUESTIONS, not saying I have deep insight into how UM is conducting every meeting and every call. I'm just commenting on what I have observed in the changes to the interview process in the business world pre-Covid vs. now.

What part of Spain do the names James, Eichorst and Hocutt come from?

Nobody here knows anything about any of these guys. It's just emotional whining.
Hey D$ is selling us on the program being competent and making great hires.

Similar to all the great football he watches every year in closed Spring and Fall practices. This is the year.

Imagine if the president of Miami were black.

Then fires a white AD, interviews multiple candidates who were unqualified but black, so that AD can decide between keeping a black HC or throwing all of his eggs in another black coaches basket.

Fan base would go nuts. This is only OK in Miami
The fan base would literally take to the streets with pitchforks. This **** is completely ridiculous. And racist as fck. And Shame on Alonzo for allowing himself and his blackness to pied pipe black kids to play here and assume the same risk of injury as a kid at a program that actually cares about winning. This **** is disgusting..

So best case scenario Miami's dream is to:

-- Land an AD that's OK having to run things by Zo for football or not be involved in football at all
-- Zo who's here in a super creative, super cool, super only found at one university in the country, GM role for a CFB team
-- Mario as HC, who will be earning 5x as much as Zo, who then needs to collaborate with Zo on how to run the CFB team even though he's done so on his own for the last 5 years.

Do I have this right?

Great job Miami. Way to show the rest of the country that you really do need Miami guys running things down here, because no one else in their right minds would ever agree to such a stupid thing. (y)(y)(y)

Why are you still here? Didnt you want to fold the program and leave?

I’m neither for nor against Nunez, but some posters are missing some key points: 1) it’s New Mexico… not sure how successful one can be there (but of course should not be our standard. 2) seems like they really want to bring in a guy (Zo?) overseeing football and most likely the HC… which big time, or really good AD wants to come here not overseeing the #1 sport? I’m sure some candidates are not willing to give up that power. And 3) why are you obsessed with his football teams record, if Zo will run football? Or are we concerned with basketball, baseball or womens soccer?

Again not advocating for Nunez, but I mean what do we know about an AD, his visions and current workplace/challenges

Starting to look like
AD- Gino
AAD- Nunez Alvarez
Dir of Football Ops - Highsmith

Thats a C+

There's so much smoke out there with this AD/HC that I need a hookah break man. But with all the names thrown out, I'm surprised Jim Frevola hasn't been mentioned more with his background and credentials. It's been said before in this thread and others, if they f*ck up this AD/HC, expect to see more mediocrity and **** shows going forward, and we should all start rooting for other schools.

i think other schools have Asst ADs or czars in charge of football only, i could be mistaken. but really not a bad business model really, not unlike any other big business with different divisions.

I said Nunez wouldnt be hired because I didnt believe Miami would go that route. They wanted an experienced guy, who is aggressive. I dont see that here.

However, judging Nunez based on win-loss-records makes about as much sense as judging an AD on the GPAs the student athletes get. Its pointless. Especially at New Mexico, where losing is a daily routine in athletics. I dont know how he will do here.

I wouldn't question Nunez based solely on the W-L record of the football team. But I would question him on what he is doing as AD to try to turn things around.

Also, even if football and basketball are "only" two sports, they are the two primary workhorses on the REVENUE side of things. If those two sports go south, at some point the AD has to take the heat...

I think it really varies. There's no consistency to it among the big boys.

I think @JayCane20 has done a good job explaining the difficulties with trying to explain Nunez situatio at New Mexico.

Theres also no south in that program. There is just up.
