Uncle Jethro in consideration for OU job

So he gets zero credit for Olsen Pierre?
Good call JHall, we have such an impatient fanbase and they sometimes forget about development.

JHall so Olsen Pierre. Yet we had less than 13 sacks last year. 13 sacks .. as a team..

Worst TFL numbers since 1996... lol

Please dude you can keep Jethro sorry ***. I wished Jedd would've taken him with him.

Jethro can go. He hasnt landed anyone in two years and the DL was the worst unit on the team by far

Tosh Lupoi would be too perfect. Monster recruiter. Plus him along with carroll will make cali ours!

I doubt that. I've been watching recruiting too long. We never will take a large number of elite California players, the same way we could never take a large number from Texas or Louisiana, or the Midwest. We can get a few, maybe a couple a year, but not a lot. Many of the Calfornia players we've gotten have been disappointments: Robert Bergman, Willie Dixon, even Kyle Wright. We had that L.A. kid a few years ago that left, there was another DL we got from the San Francisco area who left and ended up starting on a mediocre UCLA team. Did nothing at UM. Josh Holmes, solid, undersized DL that USC didn't want. The best we ever got was a sleeper, Geno Torretta, or maybe one kid who did light it up, Kellen Winslow, Jr. I don't think the floodgates will open if we get that guy you're talking about.

We might up it from 0 to maybe 1 or 2 elite prospects. Other than that, we probably wouldn't get any better than we can get elsewhere. I just think it's unrealistic to expect a major change in recruiting from California. I wish we could get a guy with Louisiana ties like Curtis Johnson had.

We don't have guys who can rush the passer. The two guys starting at DE seemed to have lead feet. Sorry, but even Chickillo doesn't have great quickness off the edge. They're apparently trying to change that. I don't think it's all coaching. Still, I wonder if different coaching might make a difference. They couldn't stop the run either.

Jetro has coached some very good d lineman but at same time he seems to move around alot. I will say in his defense, he was playing alot of young guys who werent ready. It is rare a true freshman can come in and play on dl. He had to play Jelani, Earl Moore, Dequan Ivery, Corey King he was hurt and didnt have training camp, and had no curtis porter most of the time. Pierre tried to step up. Darius Smith played well as a jr but didnt get in shape as a senior. Who were his de's aside from chick? He had Tyriq mccord playing at a weight of like 217 pounds as a De. My concern is we can bring in DL's next year and redshirt them so that means we lost out on some potential depth this year.

So back to the intial question whats the latest word on whether Jethro Will stay at UM or leave for OU?

Go Canes!

But some of the guys bein g poached had the worst performance and job ratings here, of all time. Pannunzio was just awful, completely, but ends up in Bama. I bet he's nothing but a bag man, cause he was the worst ST and TE coach I've ever seen

He's their director of operations. Pretty low title for a guy who has been a Div 1 HC. He is probably being paid well there though.

I personally think Tosh is waiting on a head coaching gig (west coast) to open up (USC, Cal, either of the Arizonas, etc)

That being said, If Jethro leaves, at least give that monster a call!

laff. Ya think? The kid has been a coach for excatly five years.

I'd want to see him coordinate a unit before I hired him to coach a team.

Pannunzio was a bad tight ends coach? Jimmy Graham, Richard Gordon and Dedrick Epps are in the league, and he turned Tervaris Johnson from a washout into a tremendous blocking H-back.

Can someone explain to me why our coaches are such hot commodities? especially considering we are only a 6 and 7 win program over the last 2 years. Meanwhile, a guy like Kirby Smart from Bama and Chavis from LSU still does not have a HC job.

Maybe it's because, unlike our dopey impatient fans, the rest of the world sees that Alshermond knows how to build a program including hiring assistants.

The entire college football world, outside of our fan base, considered our season last year to be borderline miraculous. Pretty obvious our coaching staff gets a lot of credit for that outside of this board.

I'm still in shock from the idiocy I witnessed last season on the Canes message board I was on. It's just now wearing off actually. Everyone had us winning 4 or 5 games and finishing 5th in the Coastal. Then, we go out and win the Coastal, and all I read from our idiot fans was how disappointing the season was and how Alshermond needs to quit talking and start winning immediately.

We were underdogs in pretty much every **** game we played and people who gamble on sports know they are usually pretty good at those odds. The GT and NCST games spoiled people but we weren't supposed to win those games.

Horrible defense, erratic QB, ho hum WR depth, a freshman being by far our best player on offense and defense. **** was crazy.

Yes as the season wore along our young receivers really stepped up, Morris looked like a man possessed at times, and the defense and STs even came up with some timely big plays, but still it doesn't change the fact that we over achieved by a mile last year.

Can't be coaching though, just can't be.

When a guy like Phil Steele( who's pretty **** good at his gig) forecasts UM to win 4 games and somehow this team( among the youngest in the land) nearly doubles that amount. that to me is telling.

If people think Golden and our staff is a group of snakeoil salesmen, well, I don't even know what to think.

Is Patrick still at USF?

Also, people are way to quick to judge Jethro as a DL coach. I think its unfair to give him a final grade yet considering the talent and depth on the DL. We are rolling out Shayon Green as a starting DE for gods sake!

And he was one of, if not the leader in tackles this past season. Yup he sucks. SMDH. Negged

A DE with zero sacks on the year. It's an issue.

Guys can point to his pile humping tackle stats, but anyone who watched him play knows he has no business out there at DE. He's a great kid and a true warrior and credit to the program, but for him to have to log all those minutes at DE when he was so clearly overmatched was criminal. We can thank Shanntard for that.

When Alshermond gets his roster right, guys like Shayon will be looked at like Jeff Popovich, who was forced to play a lot of Safety here when our numbers were f#cked up despite being physically unable to compete at that position at this level.

In fairness to smokey, our ST back then were a disaster.
