Uncle Jethro in consideration for OU job

Can someone explain to me why our coaches are such hot commodities? especially considering we are only a 6 and 7 win program over the last 2 years. Meanwhile, a guy like Kirby Smart from Bama and Chavis from LSU still does not have a HC job.

I've tried in a subtle way to educate folks here on one of the most under-appreciated aspects of coaching, the coaching network. Elite level coaches are well respected among their peers. That leads lower level coaches to want to be a part of their network. I've been telling people here that my friend who is a high ranking executive with the 49ers organization has been telling me for years how well respected coach Golden is within the coaching/football Mgt community. This means that coach Golden will be able to attract assistant coaches who will be attractive to the marketplace. IF UM's athletic department does not want to pay competitive rates for high level position coaches we as fans should be prepared to see our staff turn over every few years.

Give me the young, monster recruiter, west side rider. Dude will give us instant access to Cali's Finest

So he gets zero credit for Olsen Pierre?
Good call JHall, we have such an impatient fanbase and they sometimes forget about development.

Not saying he is a great coach or a poor coach but he sure gets a **** rap for being handed a bunch of JAG's. Pierre really started to play well last year and Golden gets credit for recruiting him, but no credit for Jethro for any sort of development. Kinda strange.

Maybe it's because, unlike our dopey impatient fans, the rest of the world sees that Alshermond knows how to build a program including hiring assistants.

The entire college football world, outside of our fan base, considered our season last year to be borderline miraculous. Pretty obvious our coaching staff gets a lot of credit for that outside of this board.

Yeah, and it seems as if just about every coach on our staff was offered some sort of promotion. Heck, D'onofrio was a finalist for a head coaching position.

That being said, there are some good options out there if Franklin leaves.

I'm still in shock from the idiocy I witnessed last season on the Canes message board I was on. It's just now wearing off actually. Everyone had us winning 4 or 5 games and finishing 5th in the Coastal. Then, we go out and win the Coastal, and all I read from our idiot fans was how disappointing the season was and how Alshermond needs to quit talking and start winning immediately.

We were underdogs in pretty much every **** game we played and people who gamble on sports know they are usually pretty good at those odds. The GT and NCST games spoiled people but we weren't supposed to win those games.

Horrible defense, erratic QB, ho hum WR depth, a freshman being by far our best player on offense and defense. **** was crazy.

Yes as the season wore along our young receivers really stepped up, Morris looked like a man possessed at times, and the defense and STs even came up with some timely big plays, but still it doesn't change the fact that we over achieved by a mile last year.

Can't be coaching though, just can't be.

I bet when those dudes were called on it they denied everything and let loose with personal insults and death threats.

Why Tosh Lupoi? Should Jethro leave bringing Kevin Patrick home makes too much sense.

Tosh is a young, energetic enigma. Dude has no sunshine, looks like a UFC fighter. Major connects on the West Coast, great young coach. Could develop into a D-Coord. He is only 26 I believe.

Why would he come here?

Tosh Lupoi is a ridic recruiter. I can envision us cleaning house at DT and bringing in monster after monster.

Maybe he would see Miami as a upgrade? I was just throwing the name out there. I think if Coach Franklin leaves, you throw money at the kid.

Is Patrick still at USF?

Also, people are way to quick to judge Jethro as a DL coach. I think its unfair to give him a final grade yet considering the talent and depth on the DL. We are rolling out Shayon Green as a starting DE for gods sake!

At the heart of this issue is that UM's pay scale for assistant coaches is likely not on par with the rest of the elite level programs.

You figured that out just now? Miami has always been like that. We've always had trouble competing w salaries. It was a surprise to me that we offered coley 500k to be honest.

I don't want to see anymore coaches leave but if this guy is even a possibility it would be huge. This guy had recruits all over his nuts. Those kids would've followed him to Devry it seemed. But like I said, I prefer continuity.
