Well the locker room is brand new, so there is no excuse for it not looking good. But as for the dorms, i lived in them last semester and honestly it isnt even a big deal. You might want to get a mattress pad or a whole new mattress because his back will hurt after a while, but other than that i think its all good,

It is cool to have a recruit's father on the site. But that doesn't touch you being a Vet. Thanks for your service. If we ever run into each other, drinks on me -- I always buy for vets, so it has nothing to do with your son being a Cane. I have even bought drinks for vets who were gators--although I just could get myself to drink with them. Tell you son Welcome to THE U.

To Be Honest... we have always been sold on the U... After meeting with Coach Golden... I can tell that he wants to be the one to restore the U to it's former glory... something that will make all of us happy...and if my son can be a part of that... all the better

Its great to hear a different perspective on what goes on with recruiting. A lot of people don't understand what Coach G had to do when he took this program over!

Awesome AWESOME thread. BTW, the comments below should be read by all of those that call bs when people show concern about the timing of offers.

I think the most important tactic was expressing that they want you to be apart of their program. (Showing the Love), They didn't have to do to much because we have always had love for Miami... I think whats most important.. is get on the kids early on... first impression are lasting.. Shaq's second choice should not have been in competition... but they jumped on him early expressing their needs for his talents...showing him right where he would fit in.... They new his film better than we did... the good and the bad (not just highlights)... and were honest and didn't tell us what we wanted to hear... but told us what we needed to know...

Congrats to you & your son Shaq! Can you explain how a typical recruiting visit goes? Just curious, what coach seemed to connect best with your family?

They Love up on the kid... tell how he could be impact to the program...show them around the facilities....I'm retired military so I know the routine...love up on you to get you in... then once you in... it like know get your *** to work... But thats cool because you are getting in free education then you should work your but off to earn it... The best impression made on my wife was Mark Richt... never talked about football after extending a offer to Shaq... He talked about the preparation of life after football... explain that players dedicate their lives to football and when football is over ... they have difficulties to adjusting to a normal life... even if a player makes it to the pros... the average life span of a pro player is about 4 years... so he encouraged to be prepared for life rather it came sooner on later. Coach Andreu Swasey gave off the same impression.... He help solidify Shaq's decision

Mark is another Cane. Glad he made a good impression, but not too good. I work with people who know him from high school. Good guy from everything I hear.

That's a great idea... the advantage of early commitments is, it could attract other recruits... We are here in Jax area with Michael Pinkney... we need to meet up with him also...

Yep and all the doom and gloomers that talk crap about recruits, players and coaches are not Canes fans. They do this to make us look bad

Imo this was shaqs best option uf and fsu seem to go after the lanky linebackers while miami is kinda in the mold of a big ten type linebacker run stoppers...both pros and cons to types of backers all 3 programs take but nonetheless a good 2 down thumper in the middle that could blossom into a 3down backer

After going on a few recruiting trips (Auburn, Georgia, Florida, USC and Miami) here are some things I've noticed that favors UM and others that not so favorable for The U.

Con: Locker Room appearance - All the other schools locker room were neat and orderly... whats the big deal? My wife takes that as an indicator of lack of attention to detail and order.... Moms are a big influence in the recruiting process

Con: Dormitory/Living Conditions... The U lacks all the other schools we have visited. Again another mommy concerns. The other schools living facilities were much nicer.

Pro: The City of Miami as a backdrop

Pro: Schools reputation - History on Winning and the Swag... (Needs a Touch Up)

IMO - The Pros out weigh the Cons...

It's all about The U!

Yea like Owens, Figs, Grace, Michael Smith, D Jack, Kirby.. Only Perryman and Juwon Young built like ''thumpers''.. FSU and UF wanted this kid badly as did everyone else in the country... UF has Antonio Morrison as a ''thumper'' and Alex Azalone or whatever his name is as ''thumpers'' Most MLB are 2 down thumpers..
