Tyson Campbell recruitment??

After watching lowly 3 and 4 stars balling out everywhere including for us, I don't care where 5 star kids like Tyson and Pat go. It doesn't even matter. Florida is so **** deep at this position it's crazy.

It's idiotic to try to categorize the DB talent in this state. Once you reach a certain level of athlete, it's a mfing crapshoot as to who will succeed or fail in college.

A class of Miguel Edwards, Wildgoose, keidron smith, Divaad Wilson, Stanley Garner, and Troutman could easily end up to be better than the one we are expecting. And I'm probably leaving out another 5 names that no one really talks about who will blow up elsewhere.

For the first time im in agreement witht his guy. Deep Deep Class of um level dbs...u miss on yur main targets and those guys arent true plan b guys...they are some elite guys in there

Been saying this for years. You don't always have to get the 5 star guys ....just be good enough in your evils to get guys that will project well every year and you'll be fine. Butch Davis did with guys like Reggie Wayne, moss and Ed reed.

Very true. But Tyson is a special talent man. 6'2, but plays with 5'9 hips and runs a true, laser 4.4. This dude is so elite it's crazy. Patrick Johnson (later Patrick Peterson) level skill set.

This is in no way realistic in 2017. If you thought those guys were diamonds in the rough, you better believe there are far less of them. The numbers speak for themselves in that you NEED to recruit highly ranked kids to have continued success. While the “evaluators” on these sites are not “professionals” they sure as **** have figured out a better way of projecting players than they used to.

Bullshi$. The top 2 pure cbs in Florida are DJ ivey and Asante Samuel. Forget 40 times and recruiting rankings. Those two are going to be next year's Trajan bandys for um and fsu. Instead of being wowed by 40 times and stars just watch them play. Both are effortless cover corners, smooth and riding the hips of whatever wr they're facing.

There are literally 10 or more cbs and safeties that could easily be as productive as Tyson or pat in college.

Wilson, bethel, keidron, nadab, garner, miguel, Asante, troutman, cajuan, wildgoose. This isn't even including our current commits.

Our best CB is an unkown 3* out of Alabama who was a plan B-C guy. If a player has what you are looking for and you can coach and develop them then you have a winning recipe. It is nice to have 4-5* guys and they have their place but a 3* CB from Miami who played against all elite talent and held his own is worth looking at also.

Can u lose TC and PS and still field a great db class......? yes only in sfla u can do that.......Is TC a freak as intangibles go yes also, so theres no wrong answer to me

Look at the numbers people. Teams that recruit at a higher level than everyone else wins championships. You can take 2 or 3 star guys that are unknown and they turn out to be a star. I get that, but if you think building a team with lower level recruits and project guys is sustainable then ill just have to refer you to a guy named Al Golden. Obviously if you like a 3 star guy like Ivey better than a 4 star guy, then take Ivey all day, or if you have a guy that fits your system better than the 4 star and you can develop that player then go for it. Could any of you guys actually say though that you would want any of wildgoose, troutman, garner, etc. over Tyson?

Don't waste your time, there will always be people going on about this or that player who turned out better than his star rating and therefore we shouldn't worry about ratings. Happens every cycle.

A dude will bust in any second now to tell you how Ed Reed was like a 2* guy. That also happens every cycle.

Look guys. We have an awesome season going. These guys down here are seeing what the U can be. I truly believe that Ty will be a 3 year starter here and a top-10 pick. Don't drive yourselves crazy. We have good coaches and will always have a good DB squad with Rumph and Banda.

But don't get it twisted, Ty is that dude

While Michael Jackson wasn't that heralded, he was a 4 star.

Not to mention the actual data:

The NFL draft proves that recruiting rankings matter. | Sports on Earth

https://www.google.com/amp/s/247spo...tter-The-2017-NFL-Draft-says-yes-52571897/Amp

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cb...star-rankings-for-first-round-selections/amp/

https://www.foxsports.com/college-f...-gary-derrick-brown-demetris-robertson-020116

For every 2-3 star guy you cherry pick that has had success, you can find two to three 4-5 stars who are performing just as highly. Not to mention for every 2-3 star guy performing, you can find about six to seven doing nothing. It’s about percentages. Not to mention the “oh, well Richt did his evaluation and he’s the guy they want”. Yes, that’s true, but that doesn’t mean they were at the top of the wish list. If it was they would only give out 25 offers every year — not 60-70.

Not really. The numbers are just too great for the "experts" to legitimately see and evaluate everyone. Think about it -- there are thousands of H.S. football players in the state of Florida alone. And football is much different than basketball. In B-ball, it's obvious that a Shaq, Kobe, or Lebron is going to be a stud. For H.S. football players, it's extremely hard for individuals to stand out like that. So many talented kids just don't get noticed for a variety of reasons.

Of course, on average, you'd rather get higher-rated players. But there are still lots of players out there that go unnoticed/underrated. You shouldn't be so quick to discount a player because of an "expert's" ranking.

Butch got the best guys. He just evaluated better than the 'rankings.'

That's what is missing in this discussion. There are a lot of kids listed above. Not that many will be the level of kid we need. The question isn't which kids are ranked highest. It's which will develop into the best players, and are we getting them to come here.

We won't know until they play. But let's not talk ourselves into sour grapes. Campbell may be the best prospect of the group and if he is, and we don't sign him, that will be unfortunate. It wont by itself mean anything too negative for us, but if that happens more often than not, we will not be 'back.'

The bottom line is we have to evaluate well. There are lots of good looking prospects, but not as many actual good prospects as it looks.

Of our DBs today, Jackson is from Alabama, Delaney a grad transfer from S.C., and Dean a juco. Finley and D. Smith are No. FL kids. Young was headed towards GA until Richt got hired. We have not feasted on the local leftovers, let alone the top kids, the past 4 years in DB recruiting.

I️ completely agree, but as you and I️ have stated it’s a percentage game. To completely brush off highly ranked guys because one out of ten might turn out as good is lunacy. Recruiting guys aren’t the best, but the system is making millions for a reason — because they’ve gotten pretty good at predicting future success of 16-18 year olds.

Rankings aren't everything, but show me that last NC who wasn't consistently getting top 10 classes. If you're smart and good, you go after and land mostly 4/5* guys with a few 3* that you think can be made into something despite being short or slow or whatever.

Imo we need to follow the recruiting classes of Fsu and ohst like 2 or 3 yrs before their previous championships. Fsu landed a 5 star qb(Winston) then we need to flood the front seven with 4&5star players like Tim Jernigan Eddie Goldman Joey bosa etc.
