Tyler Barron MIA

People are throwing PFF numbers around here like crazy, and Barron is top 10 nationally in QB pressures, and statistically is on track to have his best career season.

What I have wondered watching him, is he chasing numbers? Is he freelancing some to try to get a sack, and giving up contain and the edge?
Dude crashes in every time…we don’t set the edge at all

yea we stunt like we are trying out for a cash money hot boy video
why we constantly stunt when GT just wants to run to the edge is baffling

FYI:

Baron 7th in nation in hurries. He has not been bad at all…

I agree with many…We are running way way too many stunts with him.

BTW Elijah Roberts leads the nation with 37 hurries and only has 3 sacks.
I think a lot of that was in the first 4 games which included the gator and then the mighty FAMU, Ball State and USF. It’s dropped off significantly since then.

I would have assumed but outside of sacks, it's not the case…As some of us pointed out he was very good against Louisville with 6 pressures (season high, some aided by them likely throwing a high number I can't remember, but they were behind the entire 4th) and also had 5 against VT (a game that I remember dhim espite being nicked up that he was all over the field down the stretch while limping noticeably between plays). You are right there has been a drop off, but it's been the last 2 weeks, not after USF.

His play has fallen off vs. Duke and he was invisible against GT, I agree (Remember though GT threw only 16 times) and some of that is because he is constantly being asked to either stunt inside or on some plays, handle the flats

I'm not saying he hasn't tailed off RVA, but I don't believe Baron has been as bad as being portrayed here. Now is he worth what he is being paid? I don't know, they likely all aren't and I hate the whole NIL **** to begin with so you'd be asking the wrong guy, some guys on this board may know the number but I think overall he's been a positive for this defense even if the sacks aren't there. There are wayyyy big problems on this defense.

I honestly never understood (And said so at the time) why Elijah Roberts seemed to be in the doghouse and let go by this staff. Nyjalik Kelly could also be helping as a pass rusher (hasn't been great but definitely playing well for UCF from what I can tell)

How helpful would it be to have Elijah now!

Honestly, I would like to see him off the field. Go 3-3-5, with Bain, Barrow, and Mesidor. Bring in another LB who can set an edge. He also makes bonehead plays like facemasking

I know we like to put all the blame on Guidry, but our defense line has been getting pushed around recently. It was really noticeable against GT. They aren’t playing physical what so ever. A lot of this boils down to being hungry and motivated
Remember that run Cam Ward had week one against the Gators where he slowed down and almost walked to the sideline? I'll be damned, that's just about how our defenders look when they are trying to tackle.

Problem is opposing teams pay their coaches as well & aren’t gonna let Miami’s DL freely eat. Pass rush hasn’t really gotten home since Florida game & then feasting on a few cream puffs. Instead of QBs holding the ball waiting on slow developing routes, most everything now is out quick to negate pass rush. Coaches can stick with this because we haven’t put teams away or created enough separation where teams get desperate in the pass game. Maybe an exception was late in Duke game.

Seems like Baron actually having a good season except has disappeared in the last 2 games but other then that has actually been pretty good against Louisville and Va Tech. Skeeter how was he vs Cal?
