No real reason to have 4 DL on the field at this point. They simply don't make an impact.

3-3-5 is the only way out of this.

Idk if you can fix what’s going on but that will for sure simplify our defense.

People are throwing PFF numbers around here like crazy, and Barron is top 10 nationally in QB pressures, and statistically is on track to have his best career season.

What I have wondered watching him, is he chasing numbers? Is he freelancing some to try to get a sack, and giving up contain and the edge?

Barron got juked by a QB on one leg and lost contain multiple times. Each time, he helped GT burn the clock and move the chains.

TFLs in general are nowhere near good enough. Sacks included in that number, of course, but we're just not making enough plays on the other side of the LOS.

I'll put something in the stat roll thread but we haven't had more than 7 TFLs in any ACC game. We are averaging 5.5 in the 6 we've played. 5.5 TFLs per game puts you about dead in the middle of the pack nationally. Perfectly average. With our front 7, at least what we thought, we shouldn't be perfectly average in TFLs.

335 can work. I believe Clark was a nose in a 335 @NCstate. I know he came here to play 3T but we need some sort of chsnge. Also put #22 at LB in that 335 need speed

We already run 4-2-5 most of the time. But the extra DL isn't really beneficial as we've seen lately. But we also need more athletic linebackers to make it work.

He had a pressure on that (I think) 3rd down play where the Philo threw it off his back foot and lobbed it up and I thought it might get picked but the WR was so open that it didn't matter.

Agreed.

I’ve been advocating for mores speed on the edge for several games now. Moving Mesidor to the edge will not magically produce more sacks or disruption. Some of it is scheme but I’d like to see Pickett get some burn. And, when Alston gets healthy, I do not want to see him used exclusively to spy a QB or drop into coverage. Let the man come off the edge with mean intentions.

Yea I get that but were already running out 5 DB's and theyre ***. Id rather keep our best players up front out there. Maybe switching something up there. Maybe Mesidor outside and Bain inside. Maybe throwing in Justin Scott for some more reps. I dont know just spitballing but I think weve seen enough of our DB's.

Tennessee let him go based on his NIL wishes and it was too high for them for a guy that they think didn't really make a huge difference against their tougher opponents. He also threatened to enter the portal in 2021, entered and removed his name in 2022, entered and committed to Ole Miss in 2023, flipped and enrolled to Louisville in 2024, and then reentered from Louisville 3 months later.

I totally understand the concern and wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting the kid here.

Listen and take stock in 95% of what the other teams say about the players leaving their program. 5% make your own judgement.

The same **** can be said for Meesh, known for being slow and not tackling. He was a walk-on for a reason.

The same **** can be said for CJ Clark who was a non-factor at NCST. I bought into thinking it was just because he was playing 0-1 technique and here he wouldn’t be asked to do that.

With Barrow, MSU was upset about losing that one.

I'm not sure if we even have answers on the DL which is scary. Linebacker I think can improve right now just taking Kiko & Wesley off the field more often. And yes, the db's aren't gonna get significantly better this year (but hoping Damari can give any boost).
