Travis Johnson decommits

Travis Johnson, Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit High School, Committed To Miami Hurricanes: The 6'4, 232-pound Johnson was the consistent, go-to option for Team Tampa. Johnson was much too large for most opposing corners to handle. In the semifinal game, quarterback Pete Dinovo threw to him four consecutive times. He showed sure hands and leaping ability as well.

I'm sure he hasn't grown at all since July as well.......

I'm still hoping this is just some Collins/Bryant type stuff but in my head I know he's really gone. Big fan of TJ and I think he will have a great career somewhere.

Fisch could have done some filthy things with this kids versatility though.

Guy has some outstanding hands so this one hurts if we dont get Sandland. I think Kerr moves to the O-line and Dobard needs a year or two to grow into the position.

Seems like if the staff told him he should look elsewhere they must feel really good about Sandland.

If Dobard is going to take time to grow into the position, then so would Travis.

Disagree. I dont think Travis would not be considered to fill a traditional TE spot. He would work spread situations and be utilized to spread the field. Dobard fits the traditional mold of a balanced TE. He can be used in 2-TE sets to block or catch the intermediate pass. He doesnt seem like the type of guy that will spread the field like TJ.

I think both would be RS candidates, so both would have time to grow into the position. Don't see TJ playing here as a true freshmans with all the TEs and WRs we will have on the roster.

If you really think he's a legit 6'4" 230+ then I don't know what else to say. The kid was going to sit for a while. If we land Beau in his place it's nothing but a huge recruiting success

Most kids are skinny in HS, they are 17 and 18 year old kids!! As long as he has the frame to add weight and projects as a bigger TE, that's all you can ask for. Go back and look at how skinny Luke Kuechly was as a senior LB in Ohio (i think). That's how he ended up at BC, later bloomer.....and he left BC a beast!

I don't like this. This kid is a good player and was COMMITTED to us, never seeming to waver. He was talented, a national type recruit in an area we need to keep recruiting, and wanted to be a Cane.....and i want those players.

Never said anything otherwise. He'd be a nice addition to a larger class and if we weren't facing scholarship losses. Why take a late bloomer as you describe him potentially being rather than a kid like Sandland ready to start from day 1?

And who knows what the **** happened with his recruitment. Good luck to him. I'm just not going to go all chicken little over losing a project TE

If we get sandland then I would agree. However I could see tj getting burn in the redzone. After walford, we really don't have anyone with hands down there unless Cleveland emerges.

Watch when you see Beau Sandland catching passes down the middle from Stephen Morris
