Travis Johnson decommits

I just dont think this kid is a Miami Type of Athlete. I think he'll struggle to get separation at the next level.

I will cautiously agree with you there, another thing that was brought up from the camp circuit by a Rivals guy was that while he caught almost everything, but he had a lot of those bobble grabs. That may work well in 7 on 7 touch football, but wont work when a safety hits you as you try to make the grab. Still think he will end up a solid player somehwere though.

Disagree with those who are being critical. TJ is a baller and will do well. I feel badly for him, as he was a diehard Cane. I also expect him to do very well at a BCS school. He's the kind of kid we'll wonder why we didn't keep home in 3-4 years. Fortunately for Miami, we have an equally strong, possibly even more talented FR TE in Dobard. And coaches believe Morris can put up Tom Brady type of production with Sandland next year, so they were willing to make the trade-off.

Yeah I just dont see the explosiveness there. I mean Im sure he will get his body right in a college weight program but he just doesn't have the natural explosiveness that great players possess. I think he can be solid and wish him well but I dont think we will be missing him much considering what we are bringing in this class and beyond.

Just throwing this out there, but he could potentially become much more explosive when he loses all that unnecessary weight. If he drops 20 lbs of fat and adds muscle alot of things could change, but there are no guarantees that's for sure. I really do feel bad for the kid. This is something that we would be bashing Urban Meyer for doing wiht the Gators a few years back.

Well, LMAO @ the Mom..

Calls coaches to talk to them. Is unable to reach them.

Obviously, it means Miami is going to get hammered by the NCAA (or so says the Tampa Bay Tribuine).

**** it! How did I not see it coming...

Are we really resorting to making fun of the mother of a kid who was, by all appearances, a loyal commit that unfortunately got caught up in the numbers? She's just trying to make the best of a disappointing situation for her son. Leave her be.

it's great that we got a "better" player to replace him

however

1: People are TRYING to find faults on Johnson. I mean, there weren't all these issues when he was committed.

2: and losing TJ still hurts. especially because he was someone who had been solid for us for a LONG time this year.

Wish the kid well and move on. He is a good prospect that brings a lot to the table which we decided wasn't enough. I could see him becoming a very nice player elsewhere and hope he does, assuming it isn't against us.

Kids a beast...I dont know where all this dissing is coming from.

I like him better than TWO of our CURRENT te commits.

Lol @ "bobble grabs"...no explosiveness....wow...our fans are just tooo much....dude didnt have much weaknesses just 3-4 days ago.,

Yeah I don't know why people are now criticizing him as a prospect. He got caught up in a numbers crunch, that happens sometimes. Kerr, Dobard, Johnson all fit differently within the offense, Sandland's skill overlapped Johnson's so he was the odd man out.

He's still a good prospect, wish him well and hope he ends up somewhere he wants to be.

TJ is going to be a beast when he gets in a proper S&C program. Big kid with incredible hands just needs some time to develop a position and fit an offense.

Look I said the kid is a good player, but that was one of the things that came up about the kid. The coaching staff felt that the other 2-3 kids were better takes anyway. This is one of those great situations where a good player got squeezed out of the class, I see that as a good sign regarding our recruiting. I dont bash or diss kids, I try to have discussions about our players and that sometimes requires us looking at possible deficiencies in a player's game. Feel that makes for better conversation than say everybody getting into a circle jerk, great example being what happened with Kevin Nelson and his tweets back in the 2010 cycle.

Yes, there were. Plenty of people said the exact same thing that people are saying now about TJ: he just wasn't explosive. And no it doesn't hurt now that we have Sandland.

So lying and stating publically that the school is going to get hammered IS making the best of the situation?

Ok.

She knows the school/coaches can't defend themselves. She took a cheapshot out the door.

Cheapshot? i didn't realize it was a secret that we are facing sanctions. Again, her son's apparent lifelong dream was to play for UM. That dream - which since the summer was coming true - is no more. She could have said a **** of a lot worse than mentioning we have sanctions coming, something we all already know is going to happen.

As somebody alluded to, we would be vilifying urban for this sort of thing, so it's best to lay off the family and wish the kid the best.
