Transfer Portal - Baseball 2024-25

There’s always a level people say can’t be reached, until someone plucky enough comes along and reaches it.

We have clearly been #3 in the state for a while now in terms of overall athletics.

UCF is coming, you guys can laugh about it all you want while you reminisce about 1850. They play us tough in hoops, beat us in baseball (and made a great hire + used the transfer portal extremely well imo), and continue to do work in football while having a decent track record now past the whole “national champions” fraud run. Better than us over the past 8 years…
UCF will never catch us in Football. Everything else you said is spot on.

I know he has some good stuff and he got headlines, but I think he's overrated by the baseball media.

This is a kid who walked 76 in 70 innings. He's a fly ball pitcher (55.3%) who will give up bombs.

Saw >83% of batters left on base (very high number), and only a .230 batting average on balls in play (unsustainable low).

Underlying markers show him as a mid-4's guy at the Southland Conference level.

Two arms I'd chase ahead of Mayers are Janzen Keisel out of Oklahoma State and Kellan Montgomery out of Long Beach State.

Keisel has elite stuff and metrics and performed in a good conference.

Montgomery is a durable starter who misses enough bats and is a major ground ball guy.

What does catch us mean?

In championships? Unlikely

In coaching, facilities, conference? Pending
In competing for NC's. I know it might be hard to believe but we are well on our way back to getting the talent to go to the playoffs and compete for NC's. They will never be at that level.

JMO 🤷‍♂️

I'm hoping it's a Catcher or as Casey Stengel said when he was asked why the Mets took a catcher with the first pick in the Expansion Draft, without one there would be alot of passed balls. As-of the moment, we don't have a catcher.
