2023 Transfer OVs this weekend - 1/6-1/8

Understood but I am hoping people here aren't delusional thinking that all of our wonderful new freshman are going to step up right away and be what we expect them to now vs 2-3 years from now.

Need proven great players to be mixed in with these young bucks.

None of us want to see another 5-7. 6-6,7-5 season again. We want to take that leap of 8-9 wins this upcoming season, we need some proven players.

I haven’t heard a good reason why we can’t do both elite high school recruiting and strong portal usage…

We can’t rely on incoming freshmen to flip the roster which includes uncertainty even at positions that aren’t barren..

dp jr is better than couch
Not that I disagree with you but the coaches obviously had a different opinion based on playing time.

Why do you believe DP is a better player? Not being argumentative but sincerely looking for your opinion (which I value).

I will agree some and then disagree if that makes sense. Some good quality with the ones we have brought in but need some more, even better transfers.

I hate them but the Semenholes have gotten some good transfers. Slick Mike's way of building his team but we have seen that it worked out for them last year and it worked for us with Phillips, Osborne, Rambo, etc......

Ours is a solid B- to B at this point, IMO.
Diaz and Norvell built their teams the same way - all the best players were transfers and their high school recruiting was terrible. It's fine in the absolute short term, but eventually you're going to get steamrolled by teams that recruit well.

You saw it at Miami, once the transfers left we had nothing in those position rooms and no culture to fall back on. They were 1 year mercenaries.

Oh, no doubt. Everyone from the QB to the receivers, D & O-line, etc are transfers for Norvell and the foundation is recruiting the way Mario is doing it.

A combo of both Mario Recruiting and Norvell portal additions is nice because players transfer out so fast now.

Tru forgot him. Edited my post. So seems like this guy is the Miller replacement.

Still need the war daddy type to replace Jackson.
I feel like I’ve been a bit contrarian the past few days and I’m truly not attempting to do so, so please take that note as my honest truth.

Jackson was quite poor at taking on doubles. He was not a war daddy type for Miami last year at all. Consistently moved and blown out by doubles. Where Jackson was really good last year was honestly as a one-gap penetrator. He played a ton of 3-tech last year and was a much better player at that than he was as a 1-tech. Miami rarely used a 0-tech last year. It was generally a shade or 2-tech.

Jackson was good for Miami, and they wanted to keep him. This isn’t a “he wasn’t good anyway” comment. It’s just that he wasn’t a great NT here. He certainly wasn’t good at taking on doubles and was even blocked 1v1 by centers on many occasions. He was honestly a huge part of the problem in the FSU game.

Adding any solid 1-tech who can handle a double is a big upgrade for this run defense.

And what they put on tape last year, Gore was every bit the equal to Jackson. At least on film.

Playing time wise....Couch plays a different position.

But he has better ball skills, tackles better imo has a higher ceiling.

I was waiting for TC to make the next move in progress it didnt really happen last year...we have one more year to see how he does.

I don't remember them mentioning SoFla ties. It was just, 'a CB from the Big 10, and I don't want to say anything else about it because you know how it is.' IIRC

Shot in the dark it sounded like.

There's four other big conferences. Statistically you could eliminate the PAC as we don't get many kids from that area nor do ours go there. Big was the highest probability of the rest as most guys if they leave the SEC, it's all over. Big players are familiar with Florida as they vacation down here growing up. 12, same thing as the PAC to a lesser degree.

So if the Browns, Graves and Stafford get a look on the outside, we're left with the mini-me's inside, led by Couch. Enter Roberts (potentially) - experienced, solid tackler, some playmaking skills. Better communication with the safeties? Just spitballin'.
Jaden Harris should figure prominently in the CB competition. Just remembered Porter and Curtis. This is going to be a very intriguing position group for us this year both in terms of offseason competition and what shakes out during the season. Lots of very talented and athletic kids but young and inexperienced.

Thought of him. Reports are he's getting pretty big, and even some talk of a move to S.
That's interesting. I saw him I garbage time at the end of the season and he jumped off the screen. He looked lean, muscular, quick and explosive. I really like his upside wherever he ends up.

Well we need to lock in some of these guys soon because isn't the deadline for spring enrollment next week
No. You can register for a class up to two weeks into the semester. (it is not the best route to wait that long and will put you behind the 8-ball in most classes, but it happens).
