Tracking the 23 Class: Where Are They Now?

Are you expecting 1,000 yard receivers at the TE position?

He averaged almost 17 snaps a game this year, has 500 total snaps over his first two years, and was key figure in the run game.

He is absolutely a contributor.

That’s fair. “Run game contributor”. I am hoping we get more out of him outside of being a good blocking TE. Jmo

He plays a lot of snaps. Mostly as a blocker, but he's been a receiving TE his whole life so that’s not a bad development. I’ve seen him in practice and he’s enormous and coordinated. Not as fast as Arroyo but not slow (as he showed in the VT game).

well, I’m hoping to see it on the field more bc I do think he can be a pass threat, but he’s limited bc he doesn’t have the athletic ability you need from that pass catching TE. Maybe he’s just not that kind of TE? We’ll see - spring will be key for him.

Miami's class if 23 was a top 7 class nation wide. After two years we are starting to see who is emerging / who never panned out / who are the stars / and who left..

thoughts?

I am a bit concerned about the hit rate/ developmental rate. We might see more hit the portal too.
You left out Kinsler, Bryant and Joyce. You listed Antonio Tripp twice.

Let’s see after this after the n bowl game

Granted you and I don't have access to practice every day, but is one bowl game where teams are going to play without some starers going to sway you enough to want to make him the starter next year? Even if he does good and Miami wins.

what’s the baseline hit rate for a championship contending team?
Here’s Bama’s from 2023 and they had #1 class.

Transfers:

Downs, Benson, Ricks, Hurley, Holstein, and Mitchell.

Question: where are the stars and the contributors who remained?

Proctor?
Keeley and Young look like busts.
Just justice Haynes and Proctor and maybe richard young and Jalen Hale.

But Yea that class was a bust. So far from their freshman in the 2024 class ryan williams, and like 2 corners but still too early to tell on that one.

the Bama class is
hard to judge because I think a lot of those transfers came after Saban retired

So between the classes of 2022 & 2023, which are supposed to be our upperclassmen leaders for the 2025-26 season, Mario’s HS & Portal evals are hitting at a 22.6% hit rate, which is on par with the data I provided in the “Mario Recruiter” thread during his time at UO.

He’s a 1/4.5 success rate w/ a 3/4.5 attrition/non-impact rate. I expect more portal casualties which will skew these numbers further. It’s also why for the 1st time since I started following recruiting, I was very numb b/c so far, we’re not stacking classes, we’re bleeding them.

He can only do that if he gets passes thrown his way. He has about 6-7 productive upperclassmen that get targeted more than him. There’s only 1 ball. When his number is called he makes plays in the passing game. After VT, I don’t see how there are any complaints about him.

It’s tough to give a class that went really heavy on offensive linemen a grade after two year.s. Most don’t see the field until year three. It’s definitely time for guys like Okunlola, Kinsler, Horton and the Washington brothers to make moves for starting positions. If another two or three guys from this class can become productive starters, I’d say it was a very good class.

I’d like to see similar lists of other school’s classes from the same year and see how they’ve all panned out. People tend to think highly rated are all full of immediate impact superstars but that’s not the case. Even the best recruiting schools have developmental guys and guys who are just busts. Nobody had more 5 star busts over the years than Nick Saban. It’s why the good schools don’t put all their eggs in one class and hope that that one class can “turn the team around”. We’ve seen Miami do that before and it’s exactly what Florida is doing now.
