There is no excuse in the world to field a defense as poor at Miami as one fielded at Temple.
 
Really, its a results based business.


Even if Golden and his buddy had a better track record of success, the only stats that matter are these:

Being a decent DC and having talented defenses doesn't mean Shannon didn't completely **** the bed and prove to be an embarrassment as a Head Coach. Being x's and o's guys and decent recruiters doesn't mean that Golden and D'Onofrio haven't whiffed completely on installing their system of defense. We've reached the point where context doesn't matter; our defense has been porous to the point of being a statistical outlier for the program's history. They fix it, or they go.

Nothing to see here. It's simple, Goldens/Donofrio scheme sucks monkey balls. This year will be evaluated very strongly. No improvement or just slight improvement and we will have a new D-Coordinator just to save Goldens ***. If he doesn't want to part with his buddy then he has to go also. Shannon's D runs circles around this Mickey Mouse scheme. Shannon was just an atrocious CEO and communicator.
 
And during randys time here we had some of the worst offensive teams. He was a defensive guy, he recruited defense fairly well. But his guys really burned us by leaving early. When MF and vernon left early it set us back. That and our inability to reload the DT spot. But that is on this staff....
 
Thing is that the one thing Shannon reliably did (keep it relatively simple and let the athletes play aggressively) was the reason nobody ever gave him credit and criticized him. Now everybody wants that back. That pretty much goes to show you that people are going to rip on your "scheme" no matter what it is unless you dominate and then they probably still won't give you credit. Dono is the anti-Shannon to this point in almost every respect.

You do understand using the "cupboard was empty" excuse 4 years later does not really shine a good light on Goldens?

The reason why he can't get defensive players consistently is because the scheme sucks. You don't have to take my word for it...look at those rankings in both UVA, Temple, and Miami. Seriously, there are only two outliers there in 15 years in which any defense that guy was associated with was within the top 30.

We can pile up stats like these all day against Golden and his girlfriend.

Well shannon had some of the best players to ever play at the U when he was DC, you would have to be a complete idiot not to have a a top 10 defense, also the game has evolved to more spread, and you saw that transition happen when he became CEO, well that and his lack of ability being a CEO

Different offensive game today than when Randy was coaching.

Want a peak at how his defenses would perform now just take a look at what Petrino did to him. And that was with a stacked defense.

That's why these comparisons ars dumb. Different times and with different caliber players.
There is a reason why he still hasn't landed a DC gig.
 
But golden has a complicated scheme. Donofrio is a football nerd. Talent .... Derp derp
 
Okay, so this shows, Golden cannot coach defense worth a crap. Randy was good DC and completely sucked as HC. Wait, I think we all knew that already. The other clear thins is that Butch friggin Davis was one **** of a recruiter -- wait we knew that too. Killa, am I missing something here?
