Top Three Coming Soon For Linebacker McCluster Following Miami Visit

He's much faster than that.
I agree with this as well. He looks much much faster on film. I like Mathis over him because I think Mathis has higher upside but McCluster is much more polished and instinctual and we are probably gonna need college ready guys for next year.

He isn't.
Nah I think he is. I don’t think he’s 5.13 slow. He’s not the fastest linebacker (Mathis and others we are after are faster) but his speed isn’t d tackle slow. He makes his money off his instincts and his strike. He’s a true mike and might be better served as a 1-2 down linebacker because his coverage has a long way to go. But I’ll take him. We need 4 backers this class and with his instincts I believe he can be game ready if he graduates early.

Now if he goes to FSU I won’t be mad because I think we can get guys who are just as good or better. Last year we dropped Jesiah Pierre and I think that’s a guy who is on par with McCluster.

Coming to practice on Thursday with his teammate AJ Mathis who also has a Miami offer. McClusker is high on Miami board. It is believed inside that it is a much closer battle for him between Miami and FSU than many outside people think.

Not teammates...

AJ Mathis plays with Lawrence Toafili who we offered very early, but I don't think we're recruiting anymore.

At this point if the kid plans on returning, their is genuine interest. From my sales training years ago, the Canes need to ask the kid what they can do to earn his business (commitment). We got 2 coming in Huff and Brooks, but we need 3 minimum 4 preferred for 2020 with only Keshaun Washington (LB IMO) committed. If he's not being considered as a LB then we have 0 committed and no top crystal balls to my knowledge. IMO we got to close on these two while pressing our other top targets.

It's def possible he has poor form, or just had a bad day...And instincts are definitely more important than clock speed for a Mike or even Will backer. BUT...It's every single event, the shuttle horrible/the vert horrible, etc, etc. There has to be at least a red flag, and you better make sure he's Zach Thomas instinctual when it's THAT bad

Like some of you said though, the film (to my amateur eye) looks pretty good.

I don't think we need both of these at this time. Maybe you END UP with both...But when you're courting Flowe(and doing well, clear #1 target)....Then have Kinsler, T-A-C, Martin, Hyppolite, the Texas kids and so many other names AND THE strikers for 4-5 spots (And you have to think we try hard with the portal next year at this particular position right? Losing top 4 with 2 of the remaining injury risks?)...I just don't think you take both at this time, JMO

I think the LB Class ends up like this

K-Wash (or whoever, pure striker option)
Hyppolite
Portal
Flowe (or sub whoever)
??? Then the question is do you have room for one more? Even if you do I'm not sure you take both these 2 right now (would be fine with one)

Plus a safety like Branch or the LA kid Johnson could contribute at striker in addition to Washington (if they don't take Washington's place)
