Top 5 Risers Going Into UTOUGH/Spring Practice

Deon Bush - with 20-25 lbs of added weight this dude will be a beast in the secondary

I don't think the coaching staff wants him to gain 25 pounds. He's about 185-188 now if he gets to 197-200 that would be ideal for a ballhawking safety that UM needs

1. Duke Johnson - This will be his first real offseason in a college weight program. I don't care if he adds weight, just want him to get a little stronger and more conditioned to endure a slightly increased workload for a full season.

2. Tyriq McCord - Need him to put on some good weight without losing athleticism to become the full-time starter opposite Chickillo. I really think he'll be playing this season around 245 and will not be pushed around.

3. Jelani Hamilton - He got some reps last season even though he was maybe less than a year removed from ACL surgery. He needs to stay around 270, but gain some strength. We need these 2 young DEs to solidify our DE rotation.

4. The OL - It may be cheating to list a whole unit, but we need the OL to stay well conditioned and gain a little more explosiveness. They were great in pass protection, but I want them to more consistently open up lanes and move the LOS in run blocking.

I've heard the arguments (mainly, from Larry and Alex), but I just find it hard to believe that a guy who was limited in his lower body work (was recovering from knee injury) and overall weight training, yet was still about 275, is going to stay at [stack] end. Jelani should have really grabbed a redshirt last year. I continue to wonder aloud if he'll transition into a Pierre-like DT. We'll see how his body develops this off-season. He and Gabe Terry will be interesting to watch from weight/body development standpoints.

I read something yesterday on the recruiting board from a guy claiming to be an insider. He mentioned Terry, and what he said surprised me because I always thought of Terry as a monster worker. He said Terry isn't all that committed to the weight program and that he doesn't take the nutrition part of the program seriously. That's really a **** shame if true because I can see this dude being an absolute terror off the edge with his absurd athleticism with added size and strength.

1. Curtis Porter = guy has never played a full season. Him coming back, being healthy, and playing in every game will be a key not only to the D, but whether or not this team plays in a BCS bowl.

2. Olsen Pierre = he is progressing nicely after being considered a reach when he signed. Add a steady Pierre to a healthy Porter every game and this D will have already improved.

3. Beau Sandland = a lot of hype surrounding this kid. Is he gonna be Chase Ford, or Jeremy Shockey? Expectations are high for him as well and I expect him to be wearing a black jersey before Spring ball is over.

lol @ Chase Ford

At worst Beau Sandland is Kevin Everett

All anyone has to do is watch the first 7 seconds (not even the entire play) of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF7wJqcOU6k

You'll immediately understand what a dynamic weapon he can be.

Completely agree.

Ford had ZERO size.

Ford had enough size and hype coming out of juco. A fan with family on staff when he signed was calling him the next Shockey back then too.

I still expect Sandand to leave Spring ball as the #1 TE as I stated above.

Ford tore it up in practice. Was unstoppable on seam routes.

I don't think he was strong enough to make a difference on game day.

The most important are the front four youngsters...Hamilton, Briscoe, Moore, DI, O'Donnell, Hoilett...

Also, Chickillo is going to be important...I felt the kid should have LOST weight this off-season...regain some of that kick off the line I know he's got in him.

Im real interested to see how Moore and Ivery progress.

He needs to be about 215 and a Sean Tayler type and Jenkins will be urball hawk... but it may just work the other way around... but I don't see Bush as a ballhawk I see him mostly as a head hunter!

That's upsetting to hear, lets hope he gets his act together, kid could be a killer off the edge

s.h. and c.p....if they become vocal leaders and meet expectations, that would be ideal...hurns and morris, perryman and bush other leaders

I know it's not your words, but a wrestler not committing to nutrition makes absolutely no sense.

A lot of teenagers just aren't educated on the need for nutrition. They have to be taught the correct way to eat and train because this is the first time they are ever exposed to the idea.

Most HS wrestlers just need to know how to cut weight, not necessarily how to gain it. Terry is a freak athlete, and I wonder how much nutrition actually went into his HS athletics, as he spent a few years in what I think was a youth detention facility (not sure if he was held against his will there, so don't quote me on that part of it, but I know it was some sort of facility for troubled youths where I doubt the nutrition program was all that great) in Omaha immediately prior to coming back to Palm Beach County.

The guy purporting to have the inside knowledge on this subject was pretty clear that Terry is not following the lifting/nutrition program at UM. So, it seems like we're trying to get him on board, but he's just not really doing it. Now, the dude on the recruiting board might have made the whole thing up because I didn't seen any of our mods vouch for his credibility. But he seemed like a pretty reasonable guy.

I dont think he should gain that much lol..but more muscle is needed if he is going to be a heavy hitter like we seen. He needs to work on footwork with strength
