Top 5 Risers Going Into UTOUGH/Spring Practice

Tyriq McCord is the guy I'm most interested in seeing develop in UTough.

If he adds on another 15-20 lbs, there's no stopping this dude off the edge.

He's provides the type of pass rush we've been missing for quite some time now.

The most important are the front four youngsters...Hamilton, Briscoe, Moore, DI, O'Donnell, Hoilett...

Also, Chickillo is going to be important...I felt the kid should have LOST weight this off-season...regain some of that kick off the line I know he's got in him.

Yep, dude was fat and out of shape this year. Play to your strengths.

I'm still a card-carrying member of the Rashawn Scott Fanclub. I thought he was our best WR before he got into trouble. He should have a great spring

I know he needs to fix the dropsies. Even the ones he caught weren't always clean.

all the receivers need to work on looking the ball in and how to catch with hands and not the body, not just Scott.

1. Curtis Porter = guy has never played a full season. Him coming back, being healthy, and playing in every game will be a key not only to the D, but whether or not this team plays in a BCS bowl.

2. Olsen Pierre = he is progressing nicely after being considered a reach when he signed. Add a steady Pierre to a healthy Porter every game and this D will have already improved.

3. Beau Sandland = a lot of hype surrounding this kid. Is he gonna be Chase Ford, or Jeremy Shockey? Expectations are high for him as well and I expect him to be wearing a black jersey before Spring ball is over.

lol @ Chase Ford

At worst Beau Sandland is Kevin Everett

All anyone has to do is watch the first 7 seconds (not even the entire play) of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF7wJqcOU6k

You'll immediately understand what a dynamic weapon he can be.

Completely agree.

Ford had ZERO size.

1. Duke Johnson - This will be his first real offseason in a college weight program. I don't care if he adds weight, just want him to get a little stronger and more conditioned to endure a slightly increased workload for a full season.

2. Tyriq McCord - Need him to put on some good weight without losing athleticism to become the full-time starter opposite Chickillo. I really think he'll be playing this season around 245 and will not be pushed around.

3. Jelani Hamilton - He got some reps last season even though he was maybe less than a year removed from ACL surgery. He needs to stay around 270, but gain some strength. We need these 2 young DEs to solidify our DE rotation.

4. The OL - It may be cheating to list a whole unit, but we need the OL to stay well conditioned and gain a little more explosiveness. They were great in pass protection, but I want them to more consistently open up lanes and move the LOS in run blocking.

1. Chick- He is my dude this year. He played like a man last year but was just overwhelmed for the most part. Probably played more snaps than any DE in the country and is still growing into his body and got zero help from his tackles.

2. Kirby- If he is healthy, he is going to push for all kinds of playing time. He's a beast in the making and I think he is ready.

3. Jenkins- Really started to step up last year and another year of UTough and practice and he should be a contrbutor, with Jamal Carter on his heels.

4. Howard- started playing with more confidence as the season went along

5. Hoilett- plenty of playing time for a DE this year and he is going to make an impact

I think you throw Gabe Terry in the same boat, if he can add some weight I truly believe he will be a very disruptive force off the edge

Jenkins, Bush, McCord, Hamilton, Moore, Kirby, Blue, O'Donnell, Howard, A. Crawford, Gunter, Hope, Dortch, EJ, Pierre, Robinson... basically the entire Defense has an opportunity to get better in the Spring.

Terry, McCord, Bush, Tracy, Duke.

Two terrors off the edge, a safety that's looking to murder people, a lock down, physical corner, and the best running back in college football. All bigger, stronger, faster, tougher, and smarter. Throw Kirby in there as well because we need a third LBer that people are scared of.

Impressive,this kid is beasting!!!

I tried to start making a list and got to 15 names and realized that I was being a little silly. We have lots of guys who are good that need to become great, and lots of guys who are average, and we need a few of them to step up into "good" territory. Our DL has to make tremendous strides this offseason for us to get to where the rest of the team is capable of going.

Mine's are all Shannon guys who are entering their senior seasons.

Here goes:

I - Kacy Rodgers: Actually played pretty well towards the end of the season and made some plays in coverage. Not a completely lost cause IMO and should at least challenge Bush and Jenkins.

II - Jimmy Gaines: Had a couple interceptions in November and has showed flashes of being a decent MLB. Should be in the mix along w/ Kirby and Blue. Can also play outside which could be valuable since we don't know if Eddie Johnson and/or Gabe Terry will even be alive come August.

III - Allen Hurns: Has a nose for the endzone and has played well when healthy. Would like to see him get stronger and more durable because he can be a poor, homeless man's Reggie Wayne.

IV - Jared Wheeler: Not expecting him to overtake McDermott at center but I do expect him to see some time at guard. He's our only backup interior OL with any experience.

V - Luther Robinson: Would like to see him challenge Pierre and become a difference maker. Not so sure that Moore, Ivery, King, Briscoe, Kamalu are ready for the big-time just yet.

I'd put Porter in a giant plastic bubble until August. He can be the new Boy In The Plastic Bubble circa 2013. Remake that Travolta made-for-TV movie from the 70's.
