Who you guys looking for to take a big step forward?

1) Olsen Pierre -"Lucifer" was a JAG for the first 8 games of the year, but starting with Virginia Tech he was extremely disruptive. He's got great ability and a great frame. Really looking forward to seeing what he can do with another year of conditioning and strength training.

2) Stephen Morris - There are things that Stephen Morris can do with a football that maybe 10 other QB's on the planet can do. Thought he made a step up this year from a million dollar arm and 10 cent head, to a million dollar arm and about $100,000 head. That's a good step in the right direction for him, but there's a lot of above average/good QB's. We have a small opportunity to something special next year and we need Stephen to be **** near a Heisman finalist to do it. Needs to upgrade his accuracy, footwork, anticipation, and progression reading, which some way or another all tie into each other. Hopefully Coley can do some good work with him.

3) Tracy Howard - Highly touted out of high school because of his advanced technical prowess for his age, he struggled a little out of the gate. He got more and more comfortable as the season went on and made some plays in each of the final 3 games. His issues, like most freshmen, have to do with his physique. He needs to get stronger and improve his explosion. It's his and Deon Bush's defensive backfield next year.

4) Raphael Kirby - My favorite recruit in 2012 not named Duke Johnson. Coaches were raving about him during spring last year and before his injury, he was slated to see heavy action early. He's probably between 225-230 pounds right now, runs a 4.6 something, has great read and react skills that we saw flashes of last year, and is probably one of our best coverage linebackers (which isn't saying much unfortunately). Needs to get on the Denzel Perryman strength program and buck up to about 235-240. Hope he can man the middle next year.

5) Anthony Chickillo - Safe to say we didn't think Chick would have the year he had last year and circumstances aside, I don't think that it can be considered anything other than a step back. Is he too big, too slow, or just not good enough? He needs to spend every waking moment with Swasey improving his athleticism. People can question Swasey's strength training all they want, but agility and explosion is a specialty of his, and Chick needs to be his pet project this offseason.

O'Donnell. Dude already looked huge after last UTough. He should be a beast. Will it translate on field?

All the DL really. If Porter makes it through unscathed he should be a monster. Ivery, Chick, all those guys. We need them to have the strength to do the pushing instead of getting pushed around.

Sandland and Dobard. Heck, Walford too. I expect to get alot more contribution from the TE spot this season.

Duke Johnson - See how his body matures with U tough + prepping for spring track season.

AMAZING. This will be the first spring in maybe a decade(?) where we can have legit depth at most positions and hold a true spring where we have young guys to look forward to and not have to be worried about punters playing receiver.

developments i'm interested in

- herb waters: not only had big plays towards the end of the season, but the staff was clearly trying to work him into the offense by throwing screens and such. there's still room for another downfield threat on this team besides dorsett and it'll be interesting to see if he can flesh out his game. he could certainly be better than rashawn.

- tyriq mccord/jelani hamilton: we're all still looking for that guy who can come off the edge and rush the passer... tyriq picked up some sacks but he definitely wasn't that last year. maybe he will or won't be, but hopefully he can add that to his game next year. last year was kind of a lost year for jelani and tho he's not gonna be a speed rusher, it would be nice to see him contribute.

- rayshawn jenkins/antonio crawford: both of these guys are likely penciled in for major time this year, but they didn't really show much last year. hopefully they can turn into players cuz our secondary is still pretty shaky.

- dallas crawford: if we do get alex collins, where does dallas fit in? he's a great athlete and it would seem like a waste if this guy never got on the field consistently. wildcat QB prob ain't the answer.

- dequan ivory/jacoby briscoe/earl moore/larry hope/nate dortch: a big group here, of course, but a bunch of random 3-star kids that we've scooped up... would be nice to see a few of them turn into players. there's opportunities all over the place for them.

Looking for Mccord to make a huge jump. He showed some flashes last season that he could potentially be the pass rusher we desperately need.

I'm still a card-carrying member of the Rashawn Scott Fanclub. I thought he was our best WR before he got into trouble. He should have a great spring

1. Curtis Porter = guy has never played a full season. Him coming back, being healthy, and playing in every game will be a key not only to the D, but whether or not this team plays in a BCS bowl.

2. Olsen Pierre = he is progressing nicely after being considered a reach when he signed. Add a steady Pierre to a healthy Porter every game and this D will have already improved.

3. Beau Sandland = a lot of hype surrounding this kid. Is he gonna be Chase Ford, or Jeremy Shockey? Expectations are high for him as well and I expect him to be wearing a black jersey before Spring ball is over.

Bush: Size, to go along with his ferocious hitting. Being bigger should protect his shoulder.

Howard: Increased size and athleticism to handle being an every down starter, and defensive playmaker.

McCord: Really needs to be above 240 to make an impact at the edge rusher OLB/DE hybrid position.

Hamilton: Big kid coming out of high school. Easy to dominate when you are the biggest kid in the game. I'm curious to see how much he wants to be great in college, and how he handles UTough will say a lot about his future.

Malcolm Lewis: Though he likely won't participate in Spring, I'm curious to see his progression from that gruesome injury.

Dobard will RS

Deon Bush - with 20-25 lbs of added weight this dude will be a beast in the secondary

You think he's gonna add 20-25 lbs by next season? Or just in general/eventually? Hopefully the latter because I'm just hoping he can add 10 lbs for 2013. MHO of course.

The most important are the front four youngsters...Hamilton, Briscoe, Moore, DI, O'Donnell, Hoilett...

Also, Chickillo is going to be important...I felt the kid should have LOST weight this off-season...regain some of that kick off the line I know he's got in him.
